knitting group is knitting
helmet liners for soldiers in
Iraq and Afghanistan.

a home knitter or crocheter

ects,” leaders state.
Yarn is available.
Also, anyone who is 50
and older may join Saints
Alive.
“We will have many
opportunities for fellowship,
food and travel throughout
the year,” leaders state.
Some months a covered
dish luncheon with a pro
gram will be offered.
Other months the group
may travel.
In January, the group will
visit the Crawford Long
Museum and have lunch in
Jefferson.

The St. Catherine
Laboure Church, Jefferson,
has teamed up with an area
wellness coach to offer a
12-week weight loss chal
lenge beginning Thursday,
January 7.
The class will offer a quick,
easy weight loss solution
and long term weight loss
success including informa
tion on nutrition and health.
There will be a one-time
fee of $29, of which $15
goes into a pool to be shared
by the three people who lose
the most.
Participants will weigh in
each week and be measured
in the beginning and at the
end of the challenge.
During the 12 weeks,
materials will be supplied
and prizes will be awarded.
Participants will get a free
body analysis, learn how
to shop, learn portion con
trol and dining out tips and
more.
Each participant will have
his or her own personal well
ness coach.

Solvig, two missionaries

The Solvigs will present
a program on their experi
ences in Africa.

field leadership, according

host Tracy Trent and the
“Highest Honor Quartet” in
concert on Sunday, January

retreat will be held on Friday
and Saturday, January 22
and 23.

Commerce First United
Methodist Church will hold
the following youth events:
On Sunday, January 17,
the church youth will go
to Winter JAM at Gwinnett
Arena. Some of the perform
ers will include “Third Day”
and “New Song.” The cost
is $10; The youth winter
retreat will be held Friday
through Sunday, February
26 - 28. Youth will be stay
ing at the Foose Moose at
Pigeon Forge; Everyone is
asked to continue to be in
prayer for the weekend of
Bible study, fun and fellow
ship. Each person attending
is asked to pay $100, unless
there are 2 or more youth in
a family, then the cost is $75
per person. Money may be
turned in up until the day of
the retreat. “Please do not let
the money prevent you from
going. If that is a concern,
just talk to K. Ellen Hagen.
If you plan to attend, let K.
Ellen know by January 10,”

be upcoming details regard
ing the 2nd annual “Hoops
of Hope.” There will also be
a family night supper. All
money raised will be sent to
“Hoops of Hope.”
