Message from the President
It just seems natural at the end of
each year that I pause to think about
the past year and what the New Year
will bring us. The year 2009 will be a
year that many of us will not soon
forget. Together we fated unpara I-
leied economic challenges. Many of
us had to tighten our belts and learn
to be leaner. Some businesses, unfor
tunately, were not able to survive and
this saddens me greatly. I his storm
has been a tough one to weather. Our lives and the way we
do business are forever changed, and what we once consid
ered the norm is no longer. Although we are not totaliy out
of the storm, I can see rays of hope in the distance. I'm
convinced that because of our economic challenges, we will
be stronger and more keenly focused in the future. It will be,
and is, a new day and a new economy. And we still live and
work in a strong, vibrant community - an area still regarded
around the country as the place to do business.
Weathering this storm at the Chamber was only possible
because of the great leadership of our supporters. This
group includes our Board of Directors, Elected Officials, Com
mittee Chairs, Volunteers, and Members. And, I would be
remiss, if I failed to mention the great staff that serves this
Chamber.
Although this past year was tough, the Chamber achieved
some remarkable objectives. Over 160 businesses joined the
Chamber this year. We were able to add new and valuable
programs like our PowerHour networking. We improved our
electronic communications and promotions through our
website to promote ou r mem bers a nd give them more expo ■
surest www.jacksoncoumyga.com. We averaged 90,000 hits
a month on our website, most of those searching our online
business database, And, we implemented The Alliance, an
economic development membership group to help recruit,
promote, and improve business in Jackson County.
As for the coming year, who really knows what 2010 holds for
ail of us. However, there is one thing that I am convinced of,
that the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce has the
best, most loyal members anywhere and that together we
will continue to build an even stronger and more vibrant
community, with our unbeatable strengths of location, busi
ness Community, workforce, education, tourism and recre
ation.
I wish you, your family and your business the best of success
in 2010.
Sincerely,
