Combs, Burgess to say vows
Melissa Combs, Lula, and
James Combs, Gainesville,
announce the engagement
and forthcoming mar
riage of their daughter,
Kimberly Michelle Combs
to Alexander Ross Burgess,
son of Kevin and Debra
Burgess, Hoschton.
The bride-elect is the
granddaughter of Jim and
Mazzie Combs, Gainesville,
and the late Homer and
Geraldine Jarrard.
Miss Combs is a 2006
graduate of Flowery
Branch High School. She
is employed at Marshalls,
Gainesville.
The future groom is the
grandson of Jack and Eva
Mae Burgess, Gainesville,
and Sally Jo Boyd and the
late Thomas Boyd, Winder.
Mr. Burgess is a 2005
graduate of Flowery Branch
High School and a 2009
graduate of Lanier Technical

College, Oakwood, with a
degree in HVAC electrical.
He is employed by the
Gwinnett County Police
Department as a business
service associate.
The wedding will be held
at Calvary Baptist Church,
Gainesville, on Saturday,
May 22, 2010, at 2 p.m.
Varnums mark 50th anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Julian
Varnum celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary
with family and friends
on December 19, 2009, at
the Rose Down House in
Jefferson.
The couple, known as
MaBea and Pop, are lifetime
residents of Jackson County,
except for a short period of
time they spent in Ohio due
to his job. They have two
children, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Sailorses to mark
50th anniversary
Jimmy and Judy Sailors,
Jefferson, will celebrate
their 50th wedding anni
versary on Saturday, Jan.
16, 2010, with family.
The Sailorses were mar
ried on Jan. 16, 1960.

dren, eight grandchildren

ing for Vickie Robinson will be
held on Saturday, January 16, at
the Lighthouse Congregational
Holiness Church in Commerce.
The supper will be from 4 to
5:30 p.m. and the singing will

Jackson County Planning Commission
PUBLIC HEARING
The Jackson County Planning Commission will hold a public
hearing at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the
Jackson County Administrative Auditorium, 67 Athens Street,
Jefferson, Georgia, to consider the following matters:

1. CC-09-14 - Harold T. Beck requests a change in
conditions for the square footage on houses for lots 1 thru
10 and lots 36 thru 45 in Laurel Cove Subdivision located
on approximately 10 acres on Skelton Rd. (104E/001 thru
010 and 036 thru 045).
2. RZ-09-15 - Williams & Associates requests to rezone
139.32 acres on 655 Potters House Rd. from A-2 to CRC
for a crisis center. (041/017B and 055/007).
4.SU-09-16 - Williams & Associates requests a special use
on 139.32 acres on 655 Potters House Rd. for a crisis
center (041/017B and 055/007).
The Jackson County Board of Commissioners will address the
recommendations of the Planning Commission at a public
hearing on February 15, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jackson
County Courthouse at 5000 Jackson Parkway in the Jury
Assembly Room.
Complete applications, plats, texts, maps, and public hearing
procedures are available for review in the Planning Division
Office, of the Department of Public Development during
regular office hours. All interested persons are invited to
attend.
Anyone desiring to speak in opposition to one of the above
cases shall file a Campaign Contribution Disclosure form at
least 2 business days prior to the February 15, 2010 Public
Hearing.
‘The Odd Couple’ to show
Jan. 21-24 in Jefferson
JEFFERSON Community Theatre will present its second pro
duction, “The Odd Couple,” Jan. 21-24.
The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday-Saturday,
Jan. 21-23, and at 2:30 RM. on Sunday, Jan. 24, at the William
Martin Duncan Performing Arts Center at Jefferson High School.
Dinner packages are available for $35 each. Dinner will be at
Fusion on the Square in Jefferson, the show will be at JHS and des
sert will be at the Midland Cafe on the square in Jefferson. Regular
adult tickets are $10 each and seniors are $7 each. To get tickets in

The production will be directed by Keith Johnson. The cast
includes: Rodney Kesler as Roy, Jay Holl as Oscar, Chuck Miller
as Felix, Jani Taylor as Murray, Lynn Mulvey as Speed, Shawn
Mulvey as Vinnie and Mary Jane Cagle and Shawnmarie Budde
as the Pigeon sisters.
Three authors to hold
book signing in Hoschton
ANN MARIE Kriszt is one
of three authors that will be
featured at a book signing at
Antique Station, Hoschton, on
Saturday, Jan. 23, from 2-5
p.m.
Kriszt is a native of Italy,
who came to America at age
seven. She lived in Michigan,
where she attended college to
learn accounting.
After retiring five years ago,
Kriszt and her husband moved
to Flowery Branch. She con
tinues to work doing account
ing two days per week. The
rest of the week, she pursues
her hobbies of writing, read
ing, gardening, swimming
and taking care of her two
grandchildren. She credits her
grandchildren as the inspira
tion for her latest book, “Bestis
Friends.”
Her other books include
“Long Journey Home” and a
sequel, “Nearly Full Circle.”
Her dream is to have her books
made into a TV movie.
Ojeal “Jill” Webster — who
recendy wrote “Growing Up
on the Cumberland River” —
lives in The Village at Deaton
Creek in Hoschton. She will
also join the book signing.
Her book tells the true-life
stories of her memories of
growing up on a huge farm.
She includes numerous recipes
of old-fashioned dishes.
Carol Holzhalb will have a
representative with her chil
dren's books. Proceeds from
the sale of her books will go to
the Jackson County Courthouse
Restoration Project.
Dr. Holzhalb was bom and
raised in the Pendergrass/
Hoschton area.
Refreshments will be served.
