gical weight loss options includ
ing banding, gastric bypass and
sleeve gastrectomy.
There are two chances to
attend: Wednesday, Jan. 20, at
the Hall County Library Spout
Springs Branch, and Thursday,
Jan. 28, 2010, at Northeast
Georgia Medical Center’s Walters
Auditorium in Gainesville. The
seminars will be held from 6:30-8
p.m., with registration and a sand
wich supper beginning at 6 p.m.

DR. ZIMMERMAN HONORED
Dr. Keith Zimmerman (L) was presented with an award by chairman Henry Slocum
(center) and Dr. Claude Burnettt, Northeast Georgia Health District medical direc
tor, at the November meeting of the Jackson County Board of Health for his years
of service on the board. Dr. Zimmerman has resigned from the board as he is no
longer a Jackson County resident. He served as secretary and as vice chairman
during his years on the board.
Author to speak at Feb. 3 writers conference
THE NORTHEAST Georgia Writers
Conference will be held Wednesday, Feb. 3,
from 1-3 p.m., in Gainesville.
Author Cecil Murphey — who has written
more than 100 books, fiction and non-fiction
— will speak about “Dancing with Dialogue.”
“Dialogue isn’t real,” said Murphey, “But it
must sound real.”
To make an author’s prose “dance,” he teaches
the secrets of writing conversation that enlivens
their writing and makes them a better writer.

The writers conference is free for members
and $25 for non-members. Pre-registration is
required. There is no registration at the door.

Historical society to tour
CWL museum Jan. 24
THE JACKSON County Historical Society will tour the
Crawford Long Museum in Jefferson at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan.
24. The museum has completed a year-long renovation of the
buildings and exhibits.
A donation will be taken at the door.
Levi Lowrey, Community
House Band to perform
106 WEST, WINDER, will host Levi Lowrey and the Community
House Band for a special performance on Friday, Jan. 15, at 8 p.m.
Fresh from multiple performances at the Ryman in Nashville and
poised for its next national tour, Levi Lowrey and the Community
House Band will bring their blend of alternative country and coun
try rock to the stage.
Lowrey — with historical roots in the 106 West Performing
arts scene, along with two of his five band members formerly of
Problem Thomas — consider 106 West to be a home theatre and
comfortable stage to try out new material and perform their favorites
for their friends in Northeast Georgia.
The performing arts center is located at 106 West Athens Street,
Winder. Admission is $10.
Mentor training ahead
LINDSAY’S LEGACY Mentoring Program will hold new men
tor training sessions, as well as an “enhanced mentor training ses
sion,” this month.
A new mentor training session will be held from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.
Thursday, Jan. 21, at the Jackson EMC new building in Jefferson.
The second training will be held from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Jan. 21 at
South Jackson Elementary School.
An “enhanced mentor training session” — a resource for men
tors — will be held from noon to 1:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at First
Georgia Bank, Jefferson. Lunch will be provided at a $5 cost.
Keith Trollinger will be the guest speaker, and mentors will have a
chance to have small group discussion with other mentors.
