Polar Plunge planned to raise funds for Special Olympics
THE FIRST-EVER Polar Plunge is
being planned to raise funds for the
Special Olympics and Arcade police chief
Randy Williams plans to participate.
The event will be held at 1 p.m. on
Feb. 20 at Lake Lanier Islands Beach and
Water Park. Hundreds of participants will
wear swimsuits and “zany costumes” as
they take the plunge into the icy waters.
The event will also include food, music
and costume contests. Special Olympic
athletes will also be present for the fes
tivities.
Participants are asked to raise a mini
mum of $50 in pledges. All participants
will receive a long sleeve T-shirt and
hand-knitted scarf. Those who raise over
$150 will receive additional items.

Burglar kicks in front door
A JEFFERSON woman
returned home last week to
find out that the front door had
been kicked in and her home
had been burglarized.
Items taken from the
Lebanon Church Road home
include a flat screen televi
sion.
Other incidents reported to
the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office last week included:
•theft at a Hwy. 53,
Braselton, address, where a
man said someone took tools
from his residence.
•theft at a Pleasant Hill
Drive, Talmo, address, where
a man said at least three busi
ness checks were taken from
his office. The man named
two possible suspects.
•trespassing at a Traynham
Road, Commerce, address,
where a woman said her hus
band’s ex-wife came into their
house when her elderly father-
in-law allowed her inside. The
ex-wife came to the bedroom
and started yelling at the
woman and wanted to know
where her husband was. The
husband later arrived and said
his ex-wife had no business at
the residence and their divorce
was finalized three weeks
prior to the incident.

address, where a woman said

in front of her vehicle dam
aged it.

where a woman said a man
that she had a TPO issued
against started making numer
ous harassing phone calls to
her.
•burglary at a Mauldin Road,
Jefferson, address, where a
woman said someone entered
her house, possibly while her
housekeeper was there. The
woman heard a noise that
sounded like someone mov
ing furniture in her basement.
She quickly left the house and
saw a man running from her
residence. The woman later
identified a vehicle that she
saw the suspect enter to flee
the area.
•suspicious vehicle at a
Redstone Road, Jefferson,
address, where a man reported
a suspicious vehicle driving
through his neighborhood. A
deputy spotted the vehicle and
pulled it over for a traffic stop.
Two passengers in the vehicle
were illegal immigrants and
neither had licenses. The driv
er was arrested. The men said
there were working on a job
site, waiting for materials and
got bored, then started driving
around the subdivision.

a woman said a man assaulted
her.
•criminal trespass at a
Martin Luther King Jr. Drive,
Jefferson, address, where a
woman said a man who was
told not to be at the residence
returned and left with her
daughter. The man had been
arrested in Banks County for
assaulting her daughter and
had left voluntarily with him,
the woman said.
•theft by shoplifting at
Sketchers at the Tanger Outlet
Center, Commerce, where
store employees said a man
was walking around, picking
up shoes and turning away.
One of the employees said
she saw the man put some
thing in his jacket pocket,
which was bulging when he
left the store. The man got in
a silver Jeep Cherokee and
left the area. Store employees
said four pairs of shoes were
stolen with a total estimated
value of $220. The suspect
was described as a black male
in his mid to late twenties.

address, where a woman said
someone slashed her vinyl,
above-ground swimming pool
in two places. The suspect
then tried to repair the dam
age with numerous strips of
scotch tape.
•stalking at a Ga. Hwy. 53,
Hoschton, address, where a
woman said her ex-boyfriend
came to her residence and
loudly knocked on her bed
room window. The woman’s
roommate told the man to
leave. The two women then
left the residence together,
and the man followed them to
another residence, where there
was confrontation.
•obstruction at a Ga. Hwy.
441, Nicholson, address,
where a driver fled on foot
from a deputy during a traf
fic stop. A passenger in the
vehicle, who didn’t run, said
she only knew the driver as
“G.” The vehicle had been
stolen out of Clarke County.
Deputies found two identifi
cation cards in the vehicle
that resembled the suspected
driver.
