Hix, Raybon marry Jan. 17
Lavette Dimsdale announces
the marriage of her daughter,
Britney Hix, to Steve Raybon,
formerly of Mississippi.
The wedding was per
formed Sunday, Jan. 17, at
the Alpine Wedding Chapel
in Helen.
Miss Hix is also the daugh
ter of the late Keith Hix.
The bride's grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Billy Hix,
Commerce; Brenda Melton,
Conyers, and the late Mr.
Melton.
The bride wore a strapless
white dress of satin and car
ried a bouquet of pink and
white carnations.
Amber Aaron Sailors
served as the matron of
MR. AND MRS.
RAYBON
honor, and Fred Jackson was
the groom’s best man.
The couple resides in
Commerce.
Local students nominated for
military academy appointments
U.S. CONGRESSMAN Paul
Broun, M.D., (GA-10) has rec
ommended that two area stu
dents be appointed to America’s
military academies.
Clay Gooch, a student at
Jefferson High School, and
Ryan Howe, a student at Jackson
County Comprehensive High
School, each received Broun’s
congressional nominations. They
were among 19 high school and
college students in the congres
sional district to receive the
honor.
Broun made his selections
after consultation with mem
bers of his Service Academy
Board, prominent active duty
and retired military personnel
who live throughout the Tenth
Congressional District.
Gribben, Pekarske wed Oct. 3
Melanie Ann Gribben
and Philip John Pekarske
were united in marriage
October 3, 2009, at Prince
of Peace Lutheran Church,
Fayetteville. Father Jimmy
Adams and the Rev. Justin
Kollmeyer presided at the
wedding. A reception
followed at the Wyndham
Conference Center in
Peachtree City.
Miss Gribben is the
daughter of Earl and Cindy
Gribben, Fayetteville.
She is a 2007 graduate of
Whitewater High School in
Fayetteville.
Mr. Pekarske is the son of
John and Estella Pekarske,
Jefferson. He is a 2003
graduate of Fayette County
High School in Fayetteville.
He is currently serving in
the United States Marine
Corp, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
The maid of honor was
Melissa Gribben, sister
of the bride, Fayetteville.
Bridesmaids were Meredith
Health board to meet Feb. 3
THE JACKSON County Board of Health will meet at 12:30
p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, in the education room at the health
department facility in Commerce.
Redmon, Moore wed Oct. 10
Erin Paige Redmon and
Kyle Erie Moore, both of
Commerce, were united in
marriage on Saturday, Oct.
10,2009, at Maysville Baptist
Church. The Rev. David
Sharpton officiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Redmon,
Commerce. The groom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Don
Moore, Commerce.
The bride was given in
marriage by her father.
Melanie Brown served as
matron of honor and Eric
Redmon as man of honor.
Bridal attendants included
Jessica Ader, Francie Daniel,
Tabitha Evans, Lindsay
Grinstead, Sara Marsha, Anna
Roller and Lindsey Whitley.
Faith Brown and Morgan
Roberts were flower girls.
Don Moore and Eric Moore
served as best men. The
groom's attendants includ
ed Ryan Harbuck, Blake
Milford, Derek Sain, Knox
Smith and Bart Zarzour.
Cohen Brown, Sammy
Brown and Jackson Turpin
were ring bearers, while Adam
Bagwell, Trey Hagey, Tommy
Martin, Taylor Massey, Adam
Perry and Bryan Turpin served
as ushers.

The best man was Adam
Pekarske, brother of the
groom, Revere, Mass.
Groomsmen were Tyler
Gribben and Ryan Anderson,
both of Fayetteville.

both of Fayetteville.
The couple resides in
Jacksonville, N.C.

Music for the occasion was
provided by Judy Eubanks,
pianist, and Jeremy Duggins,
soloist.
Scripture readers includ
ed Ali Bedard and Ashley
White.
Erin Hagey and Lauren
Hagey kept the bride's
book.
Following the ceremony,
a reception was held at the
Commerce Civic Center. The
night before, the groom’s
parents hosted a rehearsal
dinner at Double Oaks Golf
Club.
Following a honeymoon
at Maui, Hawaii, the couple
resides in Commerce.
SPEAKS ON TRAINING TROOPS
Lt. Wendell Stephens recently spoke to the Albert
Gordon American Legion Post in Jefferson about his
experience training Afghanistan troops as well as his
views regarding that area. Pictured are Commander
Harvie Lance and Lt. Wendell Stephens.
ORATORICAL CONTEST WINNER
Jackson County Comprehensive High School student David Lyle was the winner
of the oratorical contest sponsored by the Albert Gordon Post 56 of the American
Legion. This is the second time Lyle has won the contest. He will now compete
on the district level. The runner up was Jefferson High School student Joshua

Scholarship
available for
JCCHS seniors
THE Braselton Woman's
Club is offering a $1,000 “cook
ie scholarship” to a worthy indi
vidual.
The scholarship is only
available to seniors at Jackson
County Comprehensive High
School. Applications are avail
able in the school’s counsel
ing office and must be returned
by Tuesday, March 16. The
scholarship is not just based on
academics. A decision will be
made in May.
Humane Society
meets quarterly
THE HUMANE Society of
Jackson County meets on the
second month of each quarter
on the second Tuesday at 7
p.m. in the meeting room at
Jackson Electric Membership
Corporation on the Jefferson
Road in Jefferson.
The 2010 meeting dates
are: Feb. 9, May 11, Aug 10
and Nov 9.
