11 students
named to
All-State band
ELEVEN STUDENTS
from the Jackson County
Band program have been
chosen to perform with
the 2010 Georgia All-State
Band. Membership in the
All-State Band is the highest
honor available for band stu
dents in the state of Georgia.
This is the most students
ever to make All-State Band
from West Jackson Middle
School and Jackson County
Comprehensive High
School.
Students chosen are
Cristian Benjumea, Hailey
Hunt, Casey Hitzges,
Michael Quenton, Stuart
Bain, Kristina Baker, Jason
Murray, Matt Cantrell,
Kelsey Turner, Thomas
Carroll and Duncan
Messier.
Cristian plays bass clari
net, is an eighth grader
at WJMS, and is the son
of Alvaro Benjumea and
Adriana Echeverry of
Braselton.
Hailey plays alto saxo-

at WJMS, and is the daugh
ter of Roger and Brandy
Mazurek of Braselton.
Casey plays French
horn, is a seventh grader at
WJMS, and is the daughter
of Jamie and Laurie Hitzges

Michael plays euphonium,
is an eighth grader at WJMS,
and is the son of Michael
and Patricia Quenton of
Jefferson.
Stuart plays tuba, is a sev
enth grader at WJMS, and is
the son of Ted and Pam Bain
of Braselton.
Kristina plays flute, is a
sophomore at JCCHS, and
is the daughter of John and
Sandra Baker of Hoschton.
Jason plays alto saxo

Ryan Howe and Dana Burzo were selected by the fac
ulty at Jackson County Comprehensive High School as
2009-2010 Mr. and Miss JCCHS.

senior at JCCHS, and is the
son of Betty Ann Cantrell of
Pendergrass.
Kelsey plays French horn,
is a sophomore at JCCHS,
and is the daughter of Martha
Turner of Jefferson and
Denny Turner of Jefferson.
Thomas plays trombone,
is a sophomore at JCCHS,
and is the son of Michael
and Stephanie Carroll of
Hoschton.
Duncan plays tuba, is
a sophomore at JCCHS,
and is the son of Rodney
and Christie Messier of
Hoschton.
Cristian, Hailey, Thomas,
and Duncan all earned first
chair positions in the All-
State Band, making them
the best musicians in the
state on their instruments.

In order to make All-State
Band, students performed
a competitive audition
against thousands of other
high school musicians from
across the state. Students
had to pass a district level
audition in December
and a state level audition
in January. The All-State
Band is sponsored by the
Georgia Music Educators
Association to give band
students the opportunity to
perform with other outstand
ing musicians under nation
ally known conductors and
composers.
Students will rehearse and
perform with the All-State
Band in Savannah March
4-6.

Mason are band directors at
WJMS, and Miles and Helen
Adams are band directors at
JCCHS.
Band students to
present jazz concert
THE JACKSON County
band program will present
a jazz concert on Thursday,
February 4, at 7:30 p.m.
in the J.L. McMullan
Auditorium at Jackson
County Comprehensive High
School.
Jazz bands from WJMS and
JCCHS will perform a variety
of standard big band and con
temporary jazz literature.
William Kilgore and Miles
Adams will direct jazz bands
from WJMS and JCCHS
respectively.
Admission is free and the
public is invited to attend.

Board of Adjustment
PUBLIC HEARING
The Jackson County Board of Adjustment will hold a
Public Hearing on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at
7:00 p.m., at the Jackson County Administrative
Auditorium, 67 Athens Street, Jefferson, Georgia, on
the following matters:
BOA-10-1 - Ronald E. Miller, Executor of
Evelyn A. Miller Estate, requests a variance
on approximately 2.36 acres at 876 Hwy. 124
West, Jefferson, GA to reduce the side setback
from 40' to 20' in order to construct a storage
building. (Map 082/Parcel 006N)
Complete applications, plats, texts, maps, and public
hearing procedures are available for review in the
Planning Division Office, of the Department of Public
Development during regular office hours. All
interested persons are invited to attend.
Anyone desiring to speak in opposition to the above
case shall file a Campaign Contribution Disclosure
form at least 2 business days prior to the February 4,
2010 Public Hearing.
