Aggie Club meets at EJES
AFTER a successful
“Adopt-a-Chick” proj
ect last year, East Jackson
Elementary School expanded
its Aggie program this year
to include monthly Aggie
Club meetings and work
ing with the EJCHS FFA to
sponsor a mini-tractor pull
and a raised-bed garden.
The goal is to help stu
dents become more aware of
the rich history that Jackson
County has in agriculture
and to build interest in
young students.
The EJES Aggies just
completed the raised-bed
garden, with over 80 stu
dents participating after
school. Each student was
offered opportunities to pre
pare the beds, plant, main
tain, harvest and taste the
produce.
The garden was filled with
vegetables like squash, col-
lards, various lettuces, broc
coli, cauliflower and a vari
ety of herbs.
This proj ect would not have
been as productive without
Martin Pennco, McDonald
Hardware, Shirley’s Feed
and Seed and the American
Sign Company. Also, FFA
members from East Jackson
Comprehensive High School
helped design and build the
raised bed boxes and teach
some lessons in horticul
ture.
The Aggie Club hopes to
expand its garden next year.
