Jefferson man’s invention starts off new business
JCPR Hall of Fame inductions set
A NEW sports business
out of South Georgia is
kicking off with a product
made by a Jefferson native.
Walter Lentz Jr. is the
developer of The FIX, a
baseball and softball bat
ting training tool. While
watching his ten-year-old
son learn to bat, Lentz kept
noticing that his son was
constantly “stepping in the
bucket” which was mini
mizing his success as a
batter. So Walter created
a training tool that would
focus on helping his son
McCray develop better foot
working habits and thus the
FIX was born.
Coach David Perno,
head baseball coach for
the University of Georgia,
quickly endorsed the prod
uct and agreed to host an
instructional video that
has been developed by are
Solutions Taking Athletes
to Success (S.T.A.T.S.).
Additionally, the University
of Georgia Terry College of
Business entrepreneurship
program has partnered with
S.T.A.T.S. to build its mar
keting and sales plans for the
company. As Gatorade is to
the University of Florida
and Under Armor is to the
University of Maryland,
S.T.A.T.S. intends to be to
the University of Georgia.
In addition to The FIX,
S.T.A.T.S. will introduce
further products to help ath
letes be the best they can
be. The vision is to partner
with coaches and bring their
ideas to market.
“We are excited about the
opportunity to build a major
company in our home town
which will not only bring
jobs for rural Georgia, but
also help young athletes be
the best they can be,” said
Jason Womack, President of
S.T.A.T.S.
