Bethany United Methodist
Church youth program, direct
ed by Vivian Scott, offers both
a youth and a children’s aco
lyte group. Each group meets
on Sunday afternoon. “They
have many planned and super
vised activities from singing to
cooking and eating and going
to numerous field trips, both
for missions and fun,” leaders
state. “Bible study is always
a part of their fellowship.”
The youth cook supper each
Wednesday evening to raise
money to pay for their various
projects and ministries. The
youth and their leaders will be
going snow tubing on Sunday,
February 7. Also, the church's
Friendship Circle is currently
giving people the opportunity
to win a “Sweetheart's Night
Out” gift basket for a donation
of $2. The basket will include
a gift certificate to Fonghorn's
Steak House and two movie
tickets. They are also offering
free babysitting to the win
ners. The church is located
on Brockton Road between
Jefferson and Nicholson.
Commerce First United
Methodist Church joined
other United Methodists from
UMCOR (the church’s global
relief ministry) and the Haiti
Methodist churches to offer
critically needed water, food
and shelter to as many hurt
ing people as possible. In
addition, the church asked
for donations to support this
effort and members’ generos
ity has provided more than
$22,000 to Haitians through
UMCOR. In addition to this
effort the Deborah Circle of
the United Methodist women
is coordinating the assembly
of health kits to be distributed
to the people of Haiti through
UMCOR. Kaithy Kaiza, direc
tor of UMCOR’s relief sup
plies, has said that they will
need “hundreds of thousands”
of kits in the next few months.
Two church members also
left this past weekend to join
a larger group on a mission
trip to Honduras. The church

Faith Baptist Church,
Jefferson, will hold a movie
night on Friday, February 5, at
7 p.m. “No Greater Love” will
be shown. A preview is avail
able at nogreaterlovemovie.
com. Popcorn and drinks will
be provided. Metal chairs will
be available, but anyone who
wants may bring a cushion or
a lounge chair. Keith Cudd is

The Tri-County Ministerial
Association will hold its
monthly meeting on Saturday,
February 6, at 8 a.m. in the
BJC medical center confer

The Mountain Creek
Baptist Church thrift store
is open for business Tuesday
through Saturday, from 9 a.m.
- 5 p.m. The store is closed on
Sundays and Mondays. The
store offers gently used cloth
ing, shoes, household items,
furniture and grocery items.

St. Catherine Laboure
Catholic Church woman’s
guild voted Karen Derochers
as the parish “Woman of the
Year.” She was honored at
a special Mass on Saturday,
January 30, at the Cathedral
of Christ the King in Atlanta.
Also, the following events will
be held: Friday, February 5,
from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. the church
will be open for Adoration of
the Most Blessed Sacrament;
and Thursday, February 11, at
6:30 p.m. in the church narthex

singing on Saturday, February

will be for Charlie McEver,
a senior at Commerce High
School who has cancer. For

“Souper Bowl Luncheon”

The Jefferson First United
Methodist Youth will hold
two events for “Souper Bowl
Sunday,” February 7. They
will collect an offering at wor
ship services for the Our Daily
Bread program in Athens. They
will also watch the Super Bowl
at the home of Jeff Pratt at 6
p.m. Families of the youths are
asked to provide some “foot
ball/tailgate” food like wings,
pizza or breadsticks for the
occasion, said Spencer Arnold,
youth minister.
