THOUSANDS OF dollars worth
of clothes was taken from a Banks
Crossing business after someone tossed
a brick into the front of the store.
According to an incident report filed
with the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office, security tapes show that three
people wearing hooded jackets entered
the store after one of them tossed
the brick through the glass door.
Merchandise taken was estimated at
being valued over $7,000.

Banks County SO arrest two during sting operation
TWO PEOPLE were arrested in a
sting operation on Thursday, Jan. 28, by
Banks County Sheriff’s Office deputies
during the course of an investigation.
Banks County Sheriff Charles
Chapman reported investigators were
working a case where business cards
advertising an escort service were being
placed on vehicles in the Banks Crossing
area.
“Over the past few days cards had
been placed in several different loca
tions,” Chapman said.
Undercover officers set up a sting at a
motel in the Interstate 85 area and when
money changed hands two people were
arrested. Chapman reported.
Tonya Kaye Bavendam, 31, McConnell
Drive, Gainesville, was arrested and
charged with prostitution and Justin
Rick Garmon, 27, Riley Farm Road,
Lula, was arrested and charged with
pimping.
Both individuals were booked in to the
Banks County jail on these charges.
The investigation continues by the
BCSO investigation division.
Arcade police chief Williams to participate in Polar Plunge
THE FIRST-EVER Polar Plunge is being planned to raise
funds for the Special Olympics and Arcade police chief
Randy Williams plans to participate.
The event will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Lake Lanier
Islands Beach and Water Park. Hundreds of participants will
wear swimsuits and “zany costumes" as they take the plunge
into the icy waters. The event will also include food, music
and costume contests. Special Olympic athletes will also be
present for the festivities.
Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $50 in
pledges. All participants will receive a long sleeve T-shirt and
hand-knitted scarf. Those who raise over $150 will receive
additional items.

athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for
nearly 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabili

CERT offering CPR classes to local groups, citizens
THE JACKSON County CERT (Community Emergency
Response Team) is offering a CPR class for residents, civic
clubs and businesses.
The cost is $25 per student with all proceeds benefiting the
Jackson County CERT program.
Instructors will come to the location requested by interested
groups. The classes are available during an on-going basis.

Department reports four arrests
Maysville Police
THE MAYSVILLE Police
Department arrested two people on
drug charges during a routine traffic
stop on Highway 98 at Garnett Street
on Saturday.
Those arrested and their charg
es were: Robert Harvey Moore Jr.,
38, 115 Cotton Street, Commerce,
possession of methamphetamine
and no insurance; and Coty Oneal
Sanders, 22, 5006 Highway 82 Spur,
Commerce, possession of metham
phetamine and possession of a fire
arm during the commission of a
crime.

the past week include:
