TEENS CONDUCT SERVICE
Homer United Methodist Church high school Sunday
school class “Smothered in Glory” conducted the
morning worship services recently (pictured above).
The large group of teenagers planned the whole ser
vice from beginning to end. Mike and Paige Boomer
are teachers in the class. At the close of the service
five candidates for baptism were baptized by immer
sion by the pastor, the Rev. Jim McLendon. It was the
first time that a person had been baptized by immer
sion at Homer UMC. Methodist churches, which offer
baptism by sprinkling, pouring and immersion, have
historically used sprinkling most often. A galvanized
large animal-feeding trough was used for the immer
sions. The trough was a gift by the Boomers to the
church and will be available for future baptisms.
The service was held in the Don Stewart Hall of the
church.
