THE EAGLES of East
Jackson are off to the best
start in school history, going
2-0 to start their 2010 cam
paign.
Up next for the Eagles is a
Saturday double header against
the Cardinals of Osborne and
the Jackson County Panthers
at JCCHS.
First pitch against Osborne
is scheduled for 3 p.m. Game
time against Jackson County
is scheduled for 5 p.m.
WEST HALL
The Eagles opened up their
season last Thursday by play
ing host to the Spartans of
West Hall.
The Spartans got off to a hot
start, putting three runs on the
board in the top of the first.
The Eagles would answer by
scoring two runs in the bot
tom of the first, then add three
more in the bottom of the sec
ond after holding West Hall
scoreless in the top of the
inning to take a 5-3 lead.
The game would be back
and forth over the next four
innings, but East Jackson
would power their way to vic
tory with the help of a home
run from Sam Williamson and
a game winning RBI from
John Robinson, as the Eagles
won their season opener 8-5.
It was the first win in a sea
son opener for the Eagles in
their three-year history.
Caleb Hardy record
ed the win on the mound,
while Josh Chumley got the
save. The Eagles gave up
just four hits while picking
up 11 on the night. At the
plate, Nick Keyros went 2-3
with a double. Josh Chumley
went 3-4 with a double. Sam
Williamson went 2-4. John
Robinson went 2-4.
“Our defense and pitching
kept us in the game and we
put together some good at
bats,” said coach Josh Gandy.
“We had some timely hitting
and that was the difference in
the game.”
On Monday, the Eagles
traveled to Oakwood to face
the Spartans for the second
time in five days.
West Hall was looking for
revenge after Thursday's loss,
and made the game a tight one.
The Eagles found themselves
trailing in the sixth inning
when a pinch-hit double from
Ethan Lyons began an East
Jackson rally.
The Eagles took the lead
late, and held on for the win
when catcher Evan Williamson
made an acrobatic catch to
end the game. East Jackson
came away with the 13-12
victory.
Sam Williamson started
on the mound, pitching three
strong innings before hand
ing off to Nick Keyros, who
took on West Hall's sluggers
for the next two innings. Josh
Chumley came on to collect
the win, with Caleb Hardy
recording the save.
Williamson led the Eagles
at the plate, going 4-5, while
John Robinson went 2-3.

Lady Eagles defeat
Oglethorpe County
THE EAST Jackson soccer teams got their seasons under

On Friday, both teams traveled to Oglethorpe County. The

a scrimmage game over them on Feb. 19.
The boys, meanwhile, had a shutdown game through regu
lar time and double overtime before falling 4-3 on penalty
kicks.
The boys then went on to face Greene County at Oglethorpe
on Saturday. The score remained tied 1-1 through regular
time, and went into double overtime before Greene County
moved ahead 2-1 for the win.
Both teams were slated to host Athens Christian Tuesday at
home. Results were unavailable at press time.
Both teams will travel to Social Circle on Friday. The
girls’ match is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start time, with the
boys scheduled to play at 7:30 p.m.
