Loving
"Maw"
A celebration of the life of
Wineva Brown Williams
April 28,1924 ~ February 17, 2010
She answered to many names I'm told,
But the best I ever heard or saiv
That fit her well and with which my own soul jelled
Whs the affectionate moniker, "Maw"!
She was quite a character,
who loved you through and through,
No matter how mad you made her,
No matter how old you grew!
She lit many a candle for all of us
throughout her live-long years;
She shared with us our laughter;
She cried with us our tears!
Every last one of us that knew her
Has a piece of her in our hearts and homes,
From painted Santa faces to hand painted china,
for which she is best known!
She was full of mirth and laughter,
A connoisseur of art and even junk,
Her house was filled to its rafters
With treasures by the trunk!
How I loved to go there,
And just gaze upon her shelves and walls,
The memory of what I saw there, still my heart enthralls!
I loved to hear her tell stories,
Of growing up long ago,
Tales of Enoch, Boggie, Tubby, and Sister,
And how she loved them so!
All of them were so talented,
And as a family, so close knit,
That no one ever stopped to wonder
What woidd become of it!
That talent, that love, that laughter,
Trickled on down Wineva's family line:
Her six children were the greatest;
Her grandkids just sublime!
Her pride in them was palpable,
They were all loved beyond compare;
If you asked her greatest legacy,
She'd say that through them, it ivas there!
So, yes, we’ll miss Wineva,
And though our grief is now so raw,
We'll never forget for our hearts are etched
Forever with memories of "Maw"!
Written with love and respect
for this precious lady
and her beloved family
