Chamber Passes the Gavel and Honors Community Leaders
The Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its
annual Awards Banquet on Thursday, February 4 to ceremoni
ously pass the gavel from one chair
man to another and to honor leader
ship in the community. The theme for
the evening W3S Mission Possible
based on the spy movie, Mission
Impossible. According to Gina Mits
darffer, Outgoing Chairman of the
Board, this theme was chosen beca use Gina Mitsdarffer and Sam McDuffie
despite hard times in 2009, for the most part vue made it through what
2010 Chairman, Sam McDuffie seemed to some "impossible."
Before Mitsdarffer passed the gavel to the 2010 Chairman of the Board, Sam McDuffie she stated,
"All in all, 2009 was a good year for the Chamber This is because we have some of the best mem
bers anywhere. It was a team effort and we did it together." After accepting the gavel, Chairman,
Sam McDuffie congratulated Mitsdarffer on a job well done, McDuffie stated that his top goals for
2010 were going to be supporting the Chamber's economic development efforts and implementing
new networking opportunities for the membership.
Closing out the evening was President/CEO, Shane Short, who presented the annual leadership
awards. The winners were Howard Ledford, Volunteer of the Year; Kathy Wilbanks, Citizen of the
Tear; Legacy Landscape Management, Small Business of the Year, Tanger Outlets, Large Business of
the Year; and Elton Collins, winner of the William H. Booth Lifetime Achievement Award.
