February 27, 2010.
Born on October 14,1927,
she was the daughter of the
late Dee H. and Bernice V.
Luther. She was a gradu
ate of Mercer University
School of Pharmacy and
was a founder of Crawford
W. Long Pharmacy in
Jefferson. She was also a
member of the First Baptist
Church of Washington.
Survivors include a
daughter, Jena K. Hart,
Washington; son, Melvin
E. Kitchens, Washington;
granddaughter, Leigh
(Mike) Occhipinti,
Gainesville; grandson,
Mark (Angie) Kitchens,
Ohio; great-grandchildren,
Jonathan and Samantha
Kitchens, Ohio; brother,
Aubrey (Anita) Luther,
Macon; and nieces and
nephews.

Thursday, March 4, in the
chapel of Macon Memorial
Park Funeral Home with
the Rev. Billy Sharpston

County, she was the daugh

Dorsey and Willie Jo
Chandler Lord. She was
formerly employed with

University of Georgia and
was a member of Providence
Baptist Church. Mrs. Lord
was preceded in death by a
sister, Trudie Collins.
Survivors include broth

and Chris (Brenda) Lord;
and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Graveside services will be
held Thursday, March 11, at
2 p.m. from the Providence
Baptist Church Cemetery
with the Rev. Albert Vaughn
officiating. The family will

11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30
p.m.

‘Peasey’ Miller

Virginia Palmer Miller,
“Peasey,” died Tuesday,
March 2, 2010.
A lifelong resident of
Nicholson, she had spent
the past 19 years at the BJC
Nursing facility, where she
became a blessing to many
of the workers and other res
idents. She was the daugh
ter of the late Frank and
Clara Palmer of Nicholson
and dearly loved her step
mother Almera. She spent
her working life in textile
manufacturing but enjoyed
cooking for her family and
friends. She always loved
spending time with the peo
ple she loved and a stranger
was just a friend she hadn’t
met yet. Mrs. Miller was
preceded in death by her
husband of 50 years, J.B.
Miller; and a brother, James
R. “Spud” Palmer.
Survivors include a
daughter and son-in-law,
Gloria Jean and Jimmy
Ford, Nicholson; grandchil
dren, Angie (Judd) Wilkes,
Moody, Ala., and Teresa
(Paul) Scogin, Statham;
great-grandchildren,

CARLTON - John Loy
Moon, 88, died Wednesday,
March 3, 2010.
He was the son of the
late Onnie Loy and Mamie
Moon. He was a deacon
and choir member of the
Carlton Baptist Church
for many
years and
was a
member
of Colbert
Baptist
Church.
He retired
from S.S.
K r e s g e
Company after 25 years of
service.
Mr. Moon was a veter
an of World War II with
active service at the Battle
of Attu Island, where he
was wounded May 28,
1943. For this he received a
Purple Heart.
Survivors include his
wife of 66 years, Dorothy
L. Moon; a son John Larry
Moon and wife Linda Moon
and their sons, Charlie
Moon and Chad Moon;
son, O. Lee Moon and wife
Debbie Moon and their
daughters, Lori Moon and
Erin Moon.
Funeral services were
held Saturday, March 6,
from the chapel of Lord
& Stephens Funeral Home
with Chaplain Maitland
LaForce officiating. Burial
was in Old Fork Cemetery.

Heart Unit and VFW mem

‘Uncle Bru’ Winters
Aubrey O. “Uncle Bru”
Winters, 79, died Sunday,
February 21, 2010.
He was born on October
10, 1931,
in Franklin
County,
the son of
the late
Robert L.
and Talcie
H. Winters.
He came
from a
large family of 14 siblings,
of which ten preceded him
in death. He joined Kings
Branch Baptist Church at
an early age.
Mr. Winters was a faithful
employee of BJC Medical
Center for over 30 years.
He had a God-given gift for
singing gospel music. His
favorite gospel group of all
was his family group, “The
Rising Stars,” among many
others.
Survivors include his wife
of 57 years, Elizabeth P.
Winters; children, John A.
Winters, Lizzie D. Winters,
Marylin Winters, Ted V.
Winters and Connie F.
Winters, all of Commerce,
Dennis D. Winters, Arcade,
Jerry L. Winters, Atlanta,
