Taking a much needed peep

'hat
ill
make their appear
ance in stores today?”
I asked my family
with much excite
ment. Puzzled, they
each took a guess but
didn’t come close to
getting the correct
answer. “Peeps!” I
exclaimed! They all
looked at me a little
confused. After all, it was
only February 15th.
One of my biggest pet
peeves is stores stocking their
shelves with holiday mer
chandise, clothing and garden
supplies way before the offi
cial due dates. For example,
I saw bathing suits displayed
throughout one store the last
week of December. It drives
me crazy when I can’t find
short sleeve shirts for my chil
dren in August because long
sleeve t-shirts, sweaters and
coats have already squeezed
their way onto the racks.
Of course with Peeps, there
is always an exception. It is
not that I crave the little crit
ters for ten months out of the
year. In fact, I am not even
really crazy about the way
they taste. They are basically
marsh mallows rolled in sugar
- which doesn’t fit in with that
New Year’s resolution to loose

ten pounds in ten
weeks at all.
The reason that I
yearn to see Peeps
on store shelves
is because it gives
me assurance that
Easter, my favor
ite holiday is just
around the corner
bringing with it
Spring and hopes of
nice warm weather.
As I ventured
out to the grocery store on
February 15th, I couldn’t
help but notice the Valentine
candy being 50 percent off
and next to it were boxes
of yes...Peeps! Peeps in all
colors. I stood and stared at
them for a few moments as
thoughts of Easter, Spring,
Daylight Savings Time, and
warm weather rushed through
my mind.
My son grabbed a box of
yellow chick Peeps, put them
in my hand and pulled me to
the buggy. When I got home
I opened the package and
savored one little Peep.
If the possibility of snow,
cold temperatures, and March
winds are getting you down,
don’t be discouraged. The first
day of Spring and Easter are
only a few weeks away. In the
meantime just have a Peep!
