Braselton girl named ‘Beautiful Baby’ on national TV show
By KATIE HUSTON
BRASELTON IS NOW home to the
2010 winner of the LIVE: With Regis
and Kelly Beautiful Baby search,
Maggie Sue Romeo.
Maggie Sue is the three-year-old
daughter of Frank and Dana Romeo,
Chateau Elan, who have been married
14 years. By being named the winner
of the television contest, Maggie Sue
will appear on the cover of Parenting
Magazine. In addition, she was award
ed $125,000 to be used towards a col
lege education.
As for a more immediate prize,
Maggie Sue was awarded all the juice
and cheese puffs she could eat dur
ing the photo shoot for the magazine
cover where she appears along with
her mother, Dana.
Dana, who is a regular reader of
Parenting, watches LIVE: With Regis
and Kelly each morning while on
her treadmill. That's how she
became aware of the Beautiful
Baby Contest.
“I sent in the photo with
hopes of seeing it on the
‘baby gallery' on their web
site,” she said. ‘‘We were
really shocked when she won
- all the children (in the con
test) were so cute.”
Maggie Sue beat out thou
sands of babies from across the coun
try to be selected in the top ten. It
came down to five other children who
were all flown to New York City and
appeared on Friday morning’s live air
ing of the show. The four runners up
each received $25,000 towards a col
lege education and the 10 additional
semi-finalists were awarded a year’s
supply of products from Gerber, who
partners with Parenting to put on the
contest.
ROMEO
“(Maggie Sue) doesn’t
understand the money, but
she knows she was on TV,”
Dana said.
Maggie Sue and her par
ents were flown to New York
City for Friday's show where
the winner was announced.
Dana, who also appeared on
stage with Maggie Sue, said
that the trip was great and it
was Maggie’s first. The family took
the opportunity to hit up some of the
standard tourist stops while away.
“We went to Toys-R-Us to ride the
Ferris wheel, ate at The Sea Grill in
Rockefeller Center and watched the
ice skaters,” Dana said.
Maggie Sue has two older sisters,
Madison, 12, and Megan, 10, who
Dana said are all thrilled about their
sister’s recent award. Even though
the two girls were at school when
the show aired, they got to catch the
results.
"Megan’s teacher let them watch
(the announcement) in the class
and Madison’s teacher checked the
Internet,” Dana said.
When Maggie Sue isn’t winning
national beauty contests, Dana said
that she enjoys swimming, playing
dress up and singing along to recent
pop sensation, Lady Gaga.
Dana doesn't necessarily see model
ing in her daughter's future, but said
that if Maggie Sue showed an interest
in it, she would support her.
As far as the experience on live tele
vision, Dana said the family couldn't
have asked for a nicer time.
"Kelly Ripa is a doll and played
with all the children for about an
hour,” she said. "Everyone associated
with the show was very sweet and
accommodating.”

least one visit to the resort's won
derful spa, Castle Rock Health
Club and Spa. After slipping into
a warm robe, your visit will begin
in the tranquility room where
you can relax on cozy sofas or
chairs and enjoy hot tea.
Matt was my massage thera
pist and he was simply won
derful. I chose the 90-minute
la stone therapy. Heated smooth
basalt stones were used to melt
away muscle tension and stimu
late energy.
Extra touches including wrap
ping my feet in warm towels and
massaging my face, forehead,
scalp and neck. Matt finds your
most tense area and concentrates
on it. For me, it was tense shoul
ders and he soon had them feel
ing much better.
You can reconnect with nature
at the Westin La Cantera along
the nature trail. The mile-long
nature trial will give you a great
view of rock formations and
plant fife that winds around the
resort.
Plenty of family activities
are offered at the resort with
something for everyone. Arts
and crafts, movie night, nature
trail adventure, pint size painting
and smores made at the fire pit
near the pool are among the fun
activities to choose from.
Other reasons to visit the
resort include two championship
18-hole golf courses, six pools
with a waterfall and slide, tennis
courts, a health club and kids and
teen activities. A shuttle service
is offered to the nearby shopping
center and to Six Flags.
A new approach to dining,
Farm to Table, provides for the
freshest seasonal foods to be
served. Francesca’s at the Westin
La Cantera offers this option for
diners with local farmers provid
ing produce, meat and wine.
Working with Uncertain
Farms, located in nearby Seguin,
the menu features dishes made
with local and naturally nur
tured produce. Wild game and
beef comes from Broken Arrow
Ranch in Ingram, Texas. As
for wine, Becker Vineyards,
located between Fredericksburg
and Stonewall, provides several
selections for guests.
Francesca's features South
Texas cuisine with a Southwestern
flair. We ended our stay with a
great four-course meal. We start
ed off with quail eggs and tomato
caprese. Next up was a sweetly-
chilled Blue Crab Pagne. For my
entree, I chose steamed Atlantic
Salmon with beet and asparagus
and potato salad. For dessert,
the Dulcenea was a chocolate
delight. This amazing meal was
a great way to end our wonderful
visit to San Antonio.

HOMESCHOOL...Home-
schooled students are welcome at
Athens Christian School. Here’s
what one homeschooling mother
said about ACS:
“After homeschooling for 4
years, my three oldest children
began attending ACS. I
definitely feel like ACS was a
good and safe second step for my
children’s education. They all
adjusted wonderfully. The
teachers made sure that my
children had a smooth transition.
ACS is a blessing to my entire
family. I was pleasantly
surprised and delighted with how
much my children like school at
Athens Christian School.”
If the Lord is leading you to
take a different direction with
your child’s education, ACS
would be honored to serve you.

JACKSON County Farm
Bureau members traveled to
Atlanta Feb. 17 to partici
pate in Georgia Farm Bureau
Day at the Capitol. While
at the Capitol, members of
the Jackson County Farm
Bureau delegation visited
with Rep. Tommy Benton,
Rep. Tom McCall, and Sen.
Ralph Hudgins. Members
of the Jackson County Farm
Bureau who attended the
event included: President
Greg Pittman, Taylor Ginn,
Ali Merk, Kelsie Parr,
Kasey Moody and Clayton
Chancey.
The Jackson County dele
gation was among almost 500
Farm Bureau members from
91 counties across the state
to participate in the event.
While meeting with their state
legislators, the Farm Bureau
members discussed issues
impacting Georgia agricul
ture. Georgia Farm Bureau
has identified priority issues
for this session of the General
Assembly that include moni
toring any impact the state
water plan and tri-state water
negotiations may have on
agriculture, state budget and
tax legislation, defending ani
mal agriculture, and advocat
ing for greater fairness in the
biotechnology fees Georgia
farmers pay.
As Farm Bureau members
visited their legislators at the
Capitol, House Agriculture
Committee Chairman Rep.
Tom McCall presented a reso
lution honoring the organiza
tion in the House, and Senate
Agriculture Committee
Chairman John Bulloch pre
sented a resolution in the
Senate proclaiming it Farm
Bureau Day at the Capitol.
GFB President Zippy Duvall
spoke in both chambers.
During the luncheon GFB
hosted at the Georgia Depot
to honor members of the
Georgia General Assembly,
Duvall presented Georgia
Commissioner of Agriculture
Tommy Irvin with a framed
copy of a resolution GFB
passed at the organization’s
convention in December
recognizing Irvin for his 41
years of service to Georgia's
farmers and his longtime
friendship with Georgia Farm
Bureau.
Gov. Sonny Perdue deliv
ered the keynote address at
the luncheon, discussing the
state’s budget woes and water
issues. Perdue thanked GFB
for providing input on the
state water plan and more
recently the tri-state water
negotiation. He also thanked
Georgia's farmers who are
participating in the voluntary
irrigation-metering program
the Georgia Soil & Water
Conservation Commission
implemented in recent years.
“Your participation in this
program has enabled Georgia
to have data to show other
states that previous estimates
of the water farmers were
using were inflated three
fold.”
Regarding the budget,
Perdue said, “The big drought
these days is revenue. When
you just can't afford it any
longer you just can’t afford
it. So, we’re going to preserve
the core services Georgians
depend on the most the way
you do on the farm.”
