THE JEFFERSON soccer
teams were looking for good
results this week after wet
weather cut last week’s action
short.
Both teams were slated to
face East Jackson on Friday,
but those matches were post
poned due to wet weather.
Jefferson would return to
action on Tuesday, as they
played host to North Oconee.
The boys came away with a
10-0 loss. Results for the girls
were unavailable at press time.
Up next for the Jefferson soc
cer teams is a trip to Oglethorpe
on Friday. The girls' match is
scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.,
with the boys' match to follow
at 7 p.m.
Following that pairing,
Jefferson will travel to Hebron
on March 23. They will stay
on the road on April 9 to take
on Social Circle before return
ing home on April 13 to host
Madison County.

East Jackson
THE EAST Jackson track
and field teams took to the
road this weekend, traveling
to Loganville for the Running
With The Devils Invitational.
Both teams came home with
eighth place efforts.
For the boys, Andrew
Williams placed second in the
shot put. Nick Fulks placed
third in the discus and seventh
in the shot put. Deon Sewell
placed third in the triple jump.
Cale Pirtle placed third in the
1600-meters. T.C. Collins
placed fourth in the high jump.
Dylan Kemp took fifth in the
110-meter hurdles. Ronnie
Slizewski and Cole Meadows
were part of a four-way tie
for sixth in the pole vault.
Brandon Banks and Brandon
Garrett tied for seventh in the
high jump.
The boys also took second in
the 4x800 relay.
For the girls, Brooklyn
Watkins, who took top honors
in the pole vault. Bralee Griffin
tied for second in the pole vault.
Courtney McDowell took fifth
in the 1600-meters. Savannah
Molina took sixth in the discus.
Jessie Harper tied for sixth in
the high jump. Malika DuBose
placed seventh in the shot put.
Up next. East Jackson will
host three schools in a Thursday
meet, including Jackson
County, Athens Academy and
Franklin County.
The University of Georgia, Georgia Public Service Commission,
Atlanta Gas Light, Consumers’ Utility Counsel, and the Natural
Gas Marketers have come together to assist customers in Atlanta
Gas Light Company’s service area with matter related to natural
gas.
Deborah Phillips, Natural Gas Educator and Extension Agent will be available on
Wednesday, March 24 from 9 am - Noon
at the Jackson County Extension Office to help you:
• Understand your gas bill and work with your gas marketer.
• Learn how to take advantage of options and plans in the
natural gas industry (like senior rates plans).
• Learn your rights as a natural gas consumer.
• Find assistance if you need help with your bill.
• Conserve energy and save money on your bill.
You do not have to make an appointment to attend.
If you cannot attend on that day, you may fax a copy of your
natural gas bill with your contact information to Deborah Phillips at
706.367.6348, and she will call you back after reviewing your bill.

WITH THE season now
well under way, the East
Jackson tennis teams are now
working to get themselves on
firm footing over the next few
weeks.
Last week, the boys lost to
Winder-Barrow 4-1.
Sherying Ly and Michael
Gatlin were the winners for
the Eagles at number two
doubles.
The girls also lost to
Winder-Barrow.
Up next for East Jackson
was a match with the Banks
County Leopards that would
determine tournament seed
ing. The match had been
moved from March fourth.
The Eagles would come
away with a 3-2 loss, pick
ing up wins at number two
singles from Tony Johnson in
sets of 6-0, 6-0 and at number
three singles from Tsim Nuy
Ly with set scores of 6-4, 4-6
and 6-4.
It was a similar situation
for the girls, as they were
swept by the Lady Leopards
of Banks County 5-0.

on Tuesday. Results were
unavailable at press time.
Up next for East Jackson
is a trip to Walnut Grove
on Thursday. Match time is
scheduled for 4 p.m.
Jefferson netters sweep Hart County
JEFFERSON MADE a
clean sweep of Hart County
on the road Monday, with both
the boys and the girls winning
5- 0.
Forthe girls,BellBlankenship
won at number one singles with
set scores of 6-2, 6-3. Maggie
Broome won at number two
singles with set scores of 6-1,
6- 1. Miranda McGarity won at
number three singles with set
scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Taylor Bost and Tristan
McGarity won at number one
doubles with set scores of 6-7
(3-7 in tiebreak), 6-2, 10-5.
Savanna Howard and Alison
Salsman won at number two
doubles with set scores of 6-2,
6-3.
For the boys, Ben Daniels
won at number one singles
with set scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Sky Porter won at number two
singles with set scores of 6-1,
6-3. Matt Buchanan won at
number three singles with set
scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Aaron Martin and Cason
Thurmond won at number one
doubles with set score of 7-5,
3-6, 6-1. Trevor Castellaw and
Austin Pratt won at number
two doubles with set scores of
6-2, 6-3.
Up next for the Jefferson
netters is a trip to Walnut
Grove today (Wednesday).
Their next home match will
be on Thursday against Banks
County.
