Eagles travel to Fannin Co. Saturday Jefferson to face East Jackson Thursday
THE EAST Jackson Eagles
go into play this week looking
for their first region win of the
season.
So far, things have not
gone well in region play, as
the Eagles dropped games to
Jefferson and Banks County
earlier this month before losing
to North Oconee last week.
The Eagles are hoping to
snap a five-game losing streak
dating back to March 6 against
Osborne.
Their next shot at getting
back in the win column comes
on Saturday, as the Eagles
travel to Fannin County for
a double header against the
Rebels.
The Rebels enter play this
week off of back-to-back wins
in a double header against
Walnut Grove.
Fannin County is 6-2 over
all and 3-1 in the region. In
their last two meetings, Fannin
County has come away the
victor, with both wins coming
in a double header in April of
2009.
First pitch in Saturday’s first
game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
NORTH OCONEE
On Tuesday, the Eagles faced
off against the number sixth
ranked North Oconee Titans.

That’s just what they got, as
they came away with their first
win since March 1, winning
10-4 over the Warriors.
The victory gives East
Jackson their first region win
of the season, and improves
their overall record to 3-5.

IT WAS a mixed bag this
past week for the Jefferson
soccer teams.
On Friday, the teams trav
eled to Oglethorpe County to
face the Patriots and the Lady
Patriots.
For the girls, the trip resulted
in the team’s first win of the
season, as they defeated the
Lady Patriots 2-0.
Carolyn Carreno and Camilia
Hernandez scored in the last
ten minutes of play to give
Jefferson the victory.
“It was the best game we
have played so far and I am
very proud of them,’’ said
coach Shannon Dupree.
It wasn’t as good an outing
for the boys, as they fell 3-0 to
the Patriots.
Next up was a trip on
Tuesday to take on Hebron
Christian. For the boys, it
was another dissapointment, as
they lost 5-2.
It was the same for the girls,
as they fell 4-1.
Up next, Jefferson will make
up matches with East Jackson
at JHS on Thursday that were
originally scheduled for March
12. Those matches had been
postponed due to inclement
weather. The girls’ match is
scheduled for a 5 p.m. start
time, with the boys to follow
at 7 p.m.

THE JACKSON County
tennis teams played host last
Thursday to Hart County.
Despite some close matches,
both teams lost, with the boys
being swept 5-0, along with
the girls losing 5-0.
“There were some close
matches ... but we just came
up with the short end of the
stick,” said coach Tammi
Gowen.
On Monday, both teams
faced off against Elbert County
in the rain. Unfortunately, the
rain did little to help Jackson
County, as both teams fell
4-0.
For the boys, Lex Mosley
lost in the third set match
at first singles 4-6. Franco
Paredes lost in two sets. Chris
Thoa played eight game pro
and lost 5-8.
For the girls, first and sec
ond singles lost. The number
one doubles team lost, while
the second doubles team had
to forfeit.
Tuesday, Jackson County
traveled to Lawrenceville to
face Mountain View.
It turned out to be a good
trip, as the boys won 5-0.
Lex Mosley won at number
one singles in sets of 6-2,
6-0. Franco Peredes won at
number two singles 6-2, 6-0.
Chris Thao won at number

Buran won at number one

IT WAS a rough week for
the East Jackson golf teams.
They started off Monday
against Madison County at
Sunrise Golf Course, where
they came away with a loss,
239-183.
“It was the first match that
we had enough daylight to
finish all nine holes,” said
coach Shawn Lindsey.
On Wednesday, the Eagles
faced off against Jackson
County and Banks County at
Double Oaks. In the end,
Jackson County won with a
169, with Banks County plac
ing second with a 210 and the
Eagles finishing third with a
229.
“We played better than
Monday, but we still have a
long way to go,” Lindsey said.
“We expect our young group
to show a lot of improvement
during the season.”
Meanwhile, Weather and
EJCHS SOCCER
sickness have plagued the
Lady Eagles in the past week.
First, their match with Dawson
County slated for last week
was postponed due to wet
weather. Then Wednesday’s
match against Jackson County
saw all but one Lady Eagle
out due to sickness, prevent
ing any team scoring.
Next up, East Jackson
will travel back to Sunrise
Golf Course to face Madison
County today (Wednesday).

EAST JACKSON continues
to look for a chance to get
back in the win column after
their last two matches.
The Eagles played host to
Walnut Grove on Wednesday,
losing 2-0.
The Lady Eagles faced off
against the Lady Warriors of
Walnut Grove as well last
Wednesday. While they were
hoping to regain their winning
form from earlier this season,
East Jackson came up on the
short end of a 3-1 final score.
Next up for the boys was a
home stand against Gainesville,
who is the number five team in
the state for AAA.
Gainesville scored two
goals in the first five minutes,
and by the half, held a 3-0
lead. Gainesville would score
two more goals in the second
half to pad their lead. The
Eagles rallied somewhat late
in the going, scoring one goal.
They would get no closer as
Gainesville won 5-1.
Hopes for returning to
the win column against
Gainesville didn’t pan out for
the Lady Eagles either, as East
Jackson was shut out 6-0 in
the end.
Up next for the boys is a trip
to Riverside on Friday. Start
time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Lady Eagles will play
host to Athens Academy on
Saturday. Start time is sched
uled for noon.
