Jackson County has strong late season run

It was a good outing for the
Jackson County netters last
week, as the boys picked up
a win over Eastside in a 3-2
decision.
Lex Mosley won at number
one singles 6-2, 6-1. First time
singles player Matt Compton
won at number three singles in
two sets.
Franco Peredes and Bo
Harris, who was playing his
first match, also won at number
two doubles 8-6 in an eight
game pro set.
The girls came up short
against Eastside, however, los
ing 3-2. Erin Gentry won in
two sets at number one singles,
while Rachel Glenfield won
in straight sets at number two
singles.
On Monday, Jackson County
played host to Archer.
Archer came away with wins
against both the boys and the
girls, both with a score of 3-2.
Winning for the boys was
Alec Housholder and Nick
Buran at number one doubles
with sets of 6-4, 6-2. Joel
Oriaon and Chris Thao won at
number two doubles with sets
of 6-2, 6-2.
For the girls, Rachel
Glenfield won at number three
singles, while Addie Gooby and
Jasmine Baker won at number
one doubles.
The number two doubles
team of Emmalee Vaughn and
Heathery Husley lost after win
ning 6-2 in the first set, then
dropping the second, as well as
a final tiebreaker.
On Tuesday, Jackson County
faced off against East Jackson.
The girls came away with a
win. Kelsee Ryan won at first
singles. Erin Gentry won at
number two singles. Rachel
Glenfield won at number three
singles. Addie Gooby and
Jasmine Baker won at number
two doubles.
The boys, meanwhile, lost
4-1. Lex Mosley won a three
set match at first singles.
After a break, the Jackson
County netters will return to
action on April 14 with region
tournament play at Morgan
County.

IN THE March 24,2010 edition of The Jackson
Herald, the winning pitcher of the baseball game
between Jackson County and Stephens County
was erroneously listed as Austin Williams. Austin
Robinson recorded the win, his fourth this year.

Jefferson plays host
for five school meet
JEFFERSON PLAYED
host to several area schools
in a meet held last Friday.
The girls fared the best
for Jefferson, finishing
fourth overall. The Lady
Dragons scored 36 points to
top-placing North Oconee's
114, Westminster's 76,
and Flowery Branch’s 63.
Jefferson bested Elbert
County, who scored 34.
The boys placed fifth on
their side, scoring 15 points.
Top scorer Elbert County
had 113, Westminster had
92, North Oconee had 75 and
Flowery Branch had 39.
Individually, for the girls,
Rayna Davis took first in the
shot put. Holly Baron placed
second in the 400-meters and
fourth in the 200-meters.
Kasey McDonald placed
second in the shot put and
second in the discus. Erin
Knight placed second in the
800-meters. Eden Starnes
placed fourth in the triple
jump. Summer Bartek took
fourth in the discus.
For the boys, Carson
Newman placed second in
the discus and fourth in the
shot put. Drequnn Sewell
placed third in the 300-meter
hurdles. Derrick Perkins
placed fourth in the triple
jump. Josh Watkins placed
fifth in the 400-meters.
After spring break, the
Jefferson track and field
teams will return to action on
Saturday, April 10, as they
play host to the Jefferson
Relays.
