She was the daughter of the
late Dellmar and Eddie Kelley
Dillard. She was a lunchroom
manager for Clarke County
Board of Education and was
preceded in death by her hus
band, Emory Carter.
Survivors include daughters,
Diane Gilbert, Callahan, Fla.,
and Dreta Hayden, Nicholson:
son, Dana Carter, Athens: four
grandchildren: and five great
grandchildren.

‘Tom’ Compton
COMER - James T. “Tom"
Compton, 76, died Monday,
March 29, 2010, at his resi
dence.
A native of Comer, he was
the son of the late Neal A. and
Jessie Lou Cooper Compton.
He was the owner and operator
of Tom Compton
Trucking as a
dump truck driv-
er. Throughout
his working career, he was
a logger, bulldozer operator,
an all around heavy machine
operator and an airplane pilot.
He served his country in the
United States Air Force dur
ing the Korean Conflict. Mr.
Compton was preceded in
death by a son, Michael Gene
Compton; brothers and sis
ters, Waco D. Compton, Hulda
Mae Petty, Wayne Compton,
Amanda Weart and Neal
Compton Jr.
Survivors include chil

Billie Lois “Peggy” Conyer,
81, died Wednesday, March
31,2010.
Bom on August 4, 1929, in
Weaverville, N.C., she was the
daughter of the late William D.
and Glenn Robinson Scoggins
and had lived in Danielsville
for the last 25 years. She
retired from Michigan Blue
Cross Blue Shield of Michigan
with over 23 years of ser
vice. She was a member of
the Weaverville Presbyterian
Church.
Survivors include a daughter,
Pam Stopczynski, Louisville,
Ky.; son and daughter-in-law,
Erik and Michele Conyer,
Canton; brothers, John
Scoggins, Danielsville, and
Edward Scoggins, College
Park: grandchildren, Jason
Stopczynski, Michigan, Lauren
Coile, Louisville, Ky., and
Emily Conyer, Canton: and a
number of other relatives.

Saturday, April 3, from the
Lord & Stephens Madison
Chapel with the Rev. Calvin
Wood officiating. Burial was
in Danielsville Memorial

Margaret Crumley
COMMERCE - Margaret
Meadow Crumley, 86, former
ly of Comer and Colbert, died
Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
She was a native and life
long resident of Madison
County before her residence
at Hill Haven Nursing Home
in Commerce. She was the
daughter of the late Griff and
Maude Lee Smith Meadow.
Mrs. Crumley was preceded in
death by her husband. Ralph
Franklin Crumley; brother,
Grove Meadow; and sister,
Mabel Morris.
Before her marriage in 1956
she worked as a beautician, in
the textile industry and was
a homemaker. After her mar
riage she devoted herself to
raising a family and later as a
caregiver to her mother. She
was a joyful person who will
be remembered for her caring
and loving nature, her generos
ity and joyful laughter.
Survivors include a daughter,
Rhonda Crumley (Canalos),
Athens; sons, Chet Crumley,
Commerce, and Byron
Crumley, Comer; son-in-law,
Chris Canalos, Athens; daugh
ters-in-law Tam Leachman
Crumley, Commerce, and Lee
Ann Crumley, Comer; grand
children, Caleb and Hannah
Crumley, Commerce; sisters,
Helen Eckert, Stockbridge,
Betty Crumley and June Dean,
both of Colbert; and numerous
nieces and nephews.

Mr. Doster was a retired
Jackson County tax commis
sioner and owner of Doster
and Doster Builders. He was
a member of Galilee Christian
Church and was a former
member of the Pendergrass
Volunteer Fire Department,
the Jaycees and the Jefferson
Lions Club. He had served in
the Army National Guard.
Mr. Doster was born August
25,1940, son of the late Homer
Lee and Norma Reynolds
Doster. He also was preced
ed in death by a sister, Sara
Doster Seabolt, his brother-
in-law, Foster Seabolt, and a
nephew. Ronnie Seabolt.
Survivors include his wife,
Wanda Martin Doster; one
daughter, Tammy Doster
Buffington, Jefferson, and her
fiance. Mack Walker; one son,
Darrell Lee Doster, Jefferson:
his "other mother," Ruth
Campfield, Hendersonville,
N.C.: a sister, Barbara Biddy,

served for many years as

Kelley, 66, died on Monday,
March 29, 2010, at the home
of Scott and Melissa Smith.
Born on September 24,1943,
in Madison County, he was the
son of the late
Bunyan Monroe
and Flora Essie
Kelley. He was
retired as a machinist with
Wilson Electric. Mr. Kelley
served in the United States
Navy.
Survivors include daugh

Kimberly Denise Kelley; sons,
Reuben Lee Kelley and Vincent
Brian Kelley; stepdaughter,
Melissa Smith; sister, Brenda
Faye Damron; brother, Dewey

Harold McGinnis
COMMERCE - Harold
Hardman McGinnis, 81, died
Monday, March 29, 2010, at
St. Mary’s Hospice House.
Born in Jackson County, he
was the son of the late Guy
Rueben and Woody Nellie Lou
Crisler McGinnis. He was a
member of Mt. Olive Baptist
Church, where he served as
a deacon and Sunday school
teacher for over 50 years. He
also served on numerous com
mittees in the church. He was a
retired brick mason and a mem
ber of Brick Layers Union #7,
was a retired Jackson County
bailiff, and was a member of
the Gideons International, hon
orary member of the Georgia
Sheriff’s Association and a
North Georgia College Alum.
Mr. McGinnis was preceded
in death by a son, John Darrell
McGinnis.
Survivors include his wife of
over 60 years, Kathleen Sparks
McGinnis, Commerce; daugh
ters and sons-in-law, Sheila
Ann and Aubry H. Scoggins
and Cynthia Elaine (Cindy)
and S. Clark Cutler III, both of

Grady “Dick” Perry, 72, died

St. Mary’s Hospice House in
Oconee County.
Born in Hull, he was the son
of the late Luke Henry and
Mellie McElreath Perry. He
served six years
with the United
States Navy,
six years with
the Merchant Marines and had
worked as deputy sheriff, the
Chief of Police for Commerce
and as a prison guard. He was
of the Baptist denomination.
Survivors include his wife,

Steve Carlan, Commerce;
grandson, Eli Carlan,

son of the late James Dorsey
and Martha
Grace Tiller. He
was the owner/
operator of
Tiller Trucking Company. He
was a veteran having served
in the United States Army. Mr.
Tiller was preceded in death
by a sister, Mary Lucille Tiller
Lee.

Debra Ramsey, Diana Leigh
Turner and Robbie Ashley
