FCCLA AT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Students from the Jackson County Comprehensive
High School chapter of Family, Career and Community
Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently participated in a
weekend leadership conference held March 18-20 at the
Classic Center in Athens. Those participating were: (first
row) Shelby Owens (Illustrated Talk, silver), Christina
Garmon (Illustrated Talk, silver), Heather Hulsey (Focus
on Children, silver), Candice Sisk (Focus in Children, sil
ver); and (second row) Aubree Owens (Illustrated Talk,
silver), Brittany Aikens (Career Investigation, silver) and
Arely Pacheco (Job Interview, silver).
ATTENDS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Students from the Jackson County Comprehensive
High School chapter of Family, Career and
Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently
participated in a weekend leadership confer
ence held March 18-20, 2010 at the Classic
Center in Athens. Among those attending the
conference were: (first row) Amanda Jefferson,
Jessie Hodges, Heather Hulsey, Candice Sisk,
Arely Pacheco and Hannah Doster; and (back
row) Brittany Aikens, Shelby Owens, Christina
Garmon and Aubree Owens.
FCCLA students attend leadership conference in Athens
STUDENTS FROM the
Jackson County Comprehensive
High School chapter of Family,
Career and Community Leaders
of America (FCCLA) recently
participated in a weekend lead
ership conference held March
18-20 at the Classic Center in
Athens.
Attendees participated in a
weekend of competitions, a
Career and Trade Expo, UGA
tours, educational demonstra
tions, competitions and sessions
that challenged, informed and
motivated members and their
advisers with the theme “Beyond
the Label. - ’ While at the meeting,
students had the opportunity to
visit The University of Georgia
Campus and participated in a
tour of UGAs McPhaul Child
Development Lab.
Along with other advisers
and members from across the
state, JCCHS's FCCLA chap
ter advisers, Lydia Black and
Kelli Williams, accompanied
10 members to the meeting.
JCCHS had seven students
who received a silver medal
for their competitions at state.
They competed in the following
categories: Focus on Children,
Illustrated Talk, Job Interview
and Career Investigation.
FCCLA students receive silver medals at conference
AFTER COMPETING at
the Georgia FCCLA State
Leadership Conference, Ally
Jamison and Anna Carron
received silver medals.
Anna Carron created a power
point presentation outlining the
West Jackson Middle School
Mentor Program. Students from
WJMS mentor students from
GSES two times a month. Anna
created a presentation to explain
the importance of mentoring
and community involvement.
Ally Jamison competed in
the Recycle Redesign category.
Ally created a display board to
advertise her Blue Jean Purses
made out of old blue jeans.
Ally emphasized the impor
tance of recycling in creative
ways.
Anna and Ally have been
working on these projects for
several months. After receiv
ing silver medals at the regional
level, they were able to com
pete at the state level.
MEDALS
WJMS students Anna Carron and Ally Jamison received
silver medals at the regional level at the Georgia
FCCLA State Leadership Conference.
SENIOR DIVISON TEAM MEMBERS
Members of the EJCHS senior division team that
competed in the Northeast Georgia FFA Floriculture
Career Development Event include Heather Bing,
Adriane Chrisley, Kristen McFearin and Megan Tate.
FFA students compete
EAST JACKSON
Comprehensive High School
students in FFA were
among some of the winners
of the Northeast Georgia
FFA Floriculture Career
Development Event (CDE).
In the junior division, East
Jackson Comprehensive High
School’s FFA placed fifth. The
team includes Sarah Carithers,
Rachel Crabb, Brianna
Davenport and Erin Skinner.
EJCHS also took home the
first place finish in the senior
division. The team includes
Heather Bing, Adriane Chrisley,
Kristen McFearin and Megan
Tate.
McFearin was the first high
individual in the contest and
Chrisley was second high indi
vidual. They will compete in
Covington on March 20.
The FFA floriculture compe
tition is a career development
event connecting classroom les
sons to the green industry prac
tices. During the competition
students identify plants, equip
ment, insects, diseases and
weeds as well as take a written
knowledge exam and complete
problem solving questions.
JUNIOR DIVISON TEAM MEMBERS
Members of the EJCHS junior division team that
competed in the Northeast Georgia FFA Floriculture
Career Development Event include Rachel Crabb, Erin
Skinner, Sarah Carithers and Brianna Davenport.
