Eagles defeat Jackson County
THE EAST Jackson tennis
teams were hoping to enter
spring break on a high note
when they took on in-county
rivals Jackson County last
Tuesday.
The boys did just that, win
ning 4-1 over the Panthers.
Tony Johnson won at number
two singles. Tsim Nuy Ly
won at number three singles.
The number one doubles team
of Kevin Potts and Josh Clark
won, as did the number two
doubles team of Sherying Ly
and Jonathan Klerk.
The girls, meanwhile,
lost 4-1. Ashley Guest and
Ansley Brooks won for the
Lady Eagles at number one
doubles.

POLE VAULT PHENOM
JMS Middle School eighth grader Mason Hamrick had an impressive year in the pole
vault, ending the Jefferson Middle School track season recently with a vault at 12’6”,
breaking a record that stood over 20 years. Mason is currently ranked number one
both nationally and for the state of Georgia, and was recently recognized by the
Georgia Track and Field Association as one of the nation’s top athletes. Hamrick
plans on competing in the Georgia USATF club over the summer, as well as at the
Junior Olympics in Sacramento, California in July.
JCCHS faces Mountain View Apr. 14
THE JACKSON County soccer teams are
catching their breath this week during spring
break.
They entered the down time on a high note,
with both the girls and the boys defeating Hart
County back on March 30, leading into this
week’s spring break.
Following the break, Jackson County will
return to action on April 14, when they travel
to Mountain View.

Jefferson prepares for region play
AFTER CATCHING their breath over spring
break, the Jefferson netters are preparing for
region action beginning on Tuesday.
Jefferson recorded wins in their last matches
prior to the break, with the Dragons defeating
Walnut Grove 5-0. The Lady Dragons won
5-0 over the Warriors as well, giving Jefferson
a clean sweep.
Region tournament play is scheduled to get
under way on Tuesday, April 13.

Lady Eagles defeat Oglethorpe Co.
LAST TUESDAY, both
teams traveled to Oglethorpe
County.
The girls were looking to
rebound off of a loss in the
previous match to Athens
Academy. They got just that,
winning 3-2 over the Lady
Titans.
The boys were hoping to
regain some momentum with
another victory. They didn’t
get it, however, as the Patriots
blanked the Eagles 6-0.
Up next was another
road trip, this time to North
Oconee. The boys came up
short against the Titans, fall
ing 2-0.
It was also a bad trip for
the Lady Eagles, as they lost
1-0 to the Lady Patriots.
Following this week’s
spring break. East Jackson
will return to action April 14
with a trip to Banks County.
The girls’ match is scheduled
for a 5 p.m. start, with the
boys match to follow at 7
p.m.

LAST WEEK ended on a
strong note for the East Jackson
track teams, leading into this
week’s spring break.
Last Tuesday, East Jackson
played host to Oglethorpe
County, Riverside and Rabun
County.
The boys came away with
a second place effort, scoring
78 points to overall winner
Oglethorpe’s 85.5. Riverside
placed third with 71 points
while Rabun County trailed
with 18.
Nick Fulks took top honors
in the discus. T.C. Collins
placed first in the high jump.
Wade Mize was first in the
400-meters. Shaq Alexander
placed first in the 200-meters.
Blake Albright was first in the
3200-meters. Also placing
in various events were Trent
Dowdy, C.J. Allen, Matthew
Damron, Drew Hunter, Cale
Pirtle, Ronnie Slizewski and
Kemp Miller.
The girls, meanwhile, placed
third with 51.5 points to over
all winner Oglethorpe’s 62.5
and Rabun County’s 56.
Carrissa Rylee took first
in the high jump. Brooklyn
Watkins took top honors in the
pole vault. Courtney McDowell
was first in the 1600-meters and
in the 3200-meters. Amanda
Anderson placed first in the
800-meters.
Also placing on the day were
Ericka Hopper, Bralee Griffin,
Carly Caswell, Amanda
Anderson and Brooklyn
Watkins.
After this week’s spring
break. East Jackson will
resume their season with a trip
to JHS for the Jefferson Relays
on April 10.
JCCHS returns to action April 20
THE JACKSON County track teams are enjoy
ing some well deserved down time this week, as
JCCHS is in the midst of spring break.
The JCCHS track teams will get back to work
on April 20, when both teams play host to Banks
County and Johnson. The girls will travel to
Oconee County next for their region meet April
23-26.
Meanwhile, on April 27, the boys’ team
will travel to JHS to take on Jefferson and
Commerce.
Following that will be the Boys Region meet,
to be held at JCCHS April 30-May 3. Then the
girls will travel to Albany for their state meet
May 6-8. The season will close May 13-14 with
the boys state meet at Jefferson.

Jefferson back in action on Tuesday
AFTER A disappointing week leading into
spring break, the Jefferson soccer teams are
hoping to end their regular season on a high
note.
Both the boys and girls fell to East Jackson
on March 25, with the Dragons losing 2-1,

Lady Panthers
THE JACKSON County golf teams are set to
return to action this week after some time off
for spring break.
Last week, the boys tied for first with North
Oconee, then fell to Hart County and defeated
East Hall to lead into this week’s spring
break.
The girls, meanwhile, fell to Hart County
while the Lady Dragons lost 1-0.
The Dragons and the Lady Dragons return
to action on Tuesday, when they play host to
Madison County.
The girls’ game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m.
start time, with the boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.

last Monday at Hartwell. They rebounded
on Tuesday by defeating East Hall in a one-
on-one match. Beth Bates won for the Lady
Panthers by nine strokes.
On Wednesday, the Lady Panthers fell to
Banks County by four strokes
Jackson County will return to action on April
12 against Dawson County.
