BULLDOG SWIM RELAY SETS MEET RECORD
By Amy Glover
ATLANTA DRAGWAY’S
Saturday Insanity series rolled
on last week at the Commerce
quarter-mile.
New for 2010, the Old
Skool category was split into
two classes: Radial Flyer and
10.5 Slick Tire. The 6.50 and
7.50 Index classes set a fixed
ET goal for racers, encourag
ing them to run closest to a
determined index. The Open
Comp (Full Body) category is
basically bracket racing, but
with a pro-tree starting sys
tem. The Old Skool category
is about the old days of rac
ing, making whoever crossed
the finish line first the victor.
The 6.50 heads-up class was
led by finalists David Brand
of Covington and Robby
Brown of Loganville. Both
men were close to the fin
ish, but Brand’s 6.53 second
run at 105.79 mph beat out
Brown’s 6.52 ET at 103.95
mph due to a better reaction
time.
Mustangs dominated the
7.50 heads-up category.
Finalist Ricky Page of Monroe
raced a "90 model against
Knoxville, Tenn. racer Shane
Williams in a slightly newer
'99 model.
Williams beat himself by
.004 of a second, running a
4.96 ET at 89.24 mph while
Page stayed true with 7.51
finish at 90.78 mph. Page
now holds the top position
in points for the Summit ET
Series Super Pro class as well
as the 7.50 class.
Randall Roop of Canton
and Sean Garner of Oxford
ended the day as semi-final
ists.
2009 7.50 champion John
Norris of Royston made up
for his losses in the 7.50 class
by taking his ’86 Camaro
to the Open Comp finals,
against 2009 Summit Series
Pro champion Chad Brewer
of Canton in a borrowed ’68.
Brewer lost ground with a
slow reaction time, and
despite his dead-on run of
6.72 seconds at 90.50 mph,
Norris had the tighter run at
7.41 seconds on a 7.35 dial-
in, at 93.46 mph.
Mustangs also took charge
of the Old Skool Radial
Flyer category. Brian Bolt
of Seneca, S.C., piloting an
'85 Mustang, challenged
West Union, South Carolina’s
Bobby McNair, in a 1995 in
the finals. McNair’s car ran
a bit slow, finishing in 6.23
seconds at 115.18 mph, fol
lowing behind Bolt’s bolt to
the win stripe in 5.83 seconds
at 125.02 mph.
Tim Davis of Flowery
Branch raced his way to the
Old Skool 10.5 Slick Tire
finals against Hoschton’s

starting line first, making a
5.99 second run at 117.77

The Athens Bulldog Swim Club 12-year-old girls set a Meet Record last weekend in
the 17 team Northern Divisional Swim Meet at the Gabrielsen Natatorium at UGA.
Pictured are Anna Rose Moore of Watkinsville, Caroline Allen of Watkinsville, Camille
Porter of Jefferson and Annie Williamson of Watkinsville. The four girls swam the
4x50 free relay in 1:49.01 and broke the old meet record by almost twp seconds.
The same relay team narrowly missed the 1986 ABSC team record by less than half
a second. Williamson is currently ranked in the top 30 swimmers in America in the
50 free with a time of 24.99.
