JCCHS starts tourney play April 14
THE JACKSON County netters entered spring
break this week on a high note. Last Tuesday, the
Lady Panthers defeated East Jackson 4-1. The
boys didn’t fare as well, losing 4-1 to the Eagles.
After catching their breath this week, both
teams will prepare to return to action next week,
when they begin region tournament play at
Morgan County on April 14.
EJCHS continued from IB
within two runs of the Dragons.
But Jefferson surged again late, adding two
runs in the top of the sixth and another two in
the top of the seventh while holding the Eagles
scoreless.
In the end, Jefferson came away with the
10-4 victory.
John Robinson led East Jackson at the plate,
going 1-3 with three RBIs on the night.
RABUN COUNTY
The Eagles were looking to rebound on
Friday when they traveled to Rabun County
to face off against the Wildcats in a double-
header.
Things didn’t go so well in the first game, as
the Wildcats came away with a 10-2 victory.
But the Eagles rebounded in what ended up
being a close second game. It came down to a
one-run difference, with East Jackson coming
away with the 4-3 victory.
The win marked their second region victory
of the season.
HERITAGE, CATOOSA
On Saturday, the Eagles were on the road
again, this time traveling to Ringgold to face
the Heritage, Catoosa Generals in their second
doubleheader in two days.
It turned out to be a long trip and a long day
for the Eagles. First, they dropped the first
game to the Generals 10-6.
The second game offered no better results
for East Jackson, as they were kept scoreless
by the Generals, who won 8-0.
BANKS COUNTY
On Tuesday, the Eagles traveled to Homer to
face the Leopards of Banks County.
East Jackson had lost in their previous pair
ing with the Leopards back on March 15, and
were looking for a little revenge on Banks
County’s home turf.
That’s just what the Eagles got, as they came
away with the victory, winning 12-5.

Jefferson splits with Prince Avenue

on Tuesday.

JCCHS continued from IB
their own across in the fourth. The Panthers
answered by adding a run in the fifth off of an
RBI from Andy Williams. Austin Robinson
had an RBI that scored Rob Williams in the
sixth inning.
Archer tried to make things interesting in
the seventh. With reliever Ken Miller on the
mound, Archer scored one run and loaded up
the bases with two outs. Miller got a strike
out to end the game, giving the Panthers the
9-3 win.
Rob Williams, in his first start on the mound
of the year, recorded the win.
The victory moved the Panthers to 11-5
overall and 4-5 in the region.
“We seem to be playing a little better base
ball again right now,” Fountain said. “We’ve
gotten a couple of more region wins on the
board in past week and have a chance to get
back to .500 in the region on Wednesday. If
we can do that, we’ll be right back in the thick
of things.”
“Our region is completely turned upside
down and there are six teams with between
three and five losses in the region right now,”
Fountain added. “We’ve just got to keep tak
ing care of ourselves and let the chips fall
where they may.”
2-3. Jason Demos went 3-4. Andrew Bartek
went 1-3 with an RBI.
NORTH OCONEE
Tuesday featured a pairing between the two
top teams in the region, as the Dragons faced
off against the Titans of North Oconee.
But it wasn’t as big of a showdown as many
would have expected.
Jefferson hit home runs in every inning,
including shots by Caleb Meek, Jake Fields,
Jamie Sexton and Andrew Bartek.
By the end of the third inning, Jefferson
held a 6-1 advantage, with North Oconee
trying to hang on. But the Dragons put six
runners across in the fourth and five more in
the fifth, taking home a 17-5 win in just five
innings.
Fields recorded the win from the mound.
