Science fair welcomes elementary school students
THE JACKSON County
Elementary Challenge Science
Fair was recently held at East
Jackson Comprehensive High
School’s auditorium.
There, 55 professionally-
dressed students were honored
for their hard work and accom
plishments, according to leaders.
The students ranged in age
from six to 11 and represent
ed every elementary school in
Jackson County. An audience of
more than 200 parents, grand
parents, teachers and commu
nity supporters also joined in the
event.
During the science fair, 19 gold
medals were awarded, along with
14 silver medals and 22 bronze
medals.
Elementary Challenge students
worked for months developing
the right question, researching
and following through using the
scientific process. None of this
occurred in isolation.
The students worked in their
classrooms with the help of dedi
cated teachers, and at home with
supportive parents and grandpar
ents, leaders stated.

AMERICAN LEGION ROTC AWARDS

Letters sought for JHS 2010 grads
THE SENIORS of
Jefferson High School will
be honored at a Senior
Breakfast on May 20.
Part of the activities this
year at the senior breakfast
will be the presentation of
letters written especially to
them from their parents,
teachers, family, coaches,
youth ministers and friends.
Organizers are collecting
notes to congratulate the
students on their achieve
ment or to remember a spe
cial moment of their years
growing up.
Anyone who know a JHS
senior and would like to
write them a letter is asked
to: Enclose the letter in
an envelope with the first
and last name of the stu
dent; mark the envelope:
Attention School Council -
Senior Letter; and drop the
letter off at the high school
or mail to 575 Washington
Street, Jefferson, Ga.,
30549 or email letters to
kspringer@jeffcityschools.
org.
All letters are due by
May 14.
Braselton donates pencils
WHEN ELEMENTARY
school students return from
spring break and begin final
preparations for the CRCT
exams, they will find a sur
prise courtesy of the Town
of Braselton.
The town donated pencils
to students at West Jackson
Primary, Spout Springs
Elementary, Bramlett
Elementary and Duncan
Creek Elementary schools
for the state-mandated
tests Criterion-Referenced
Competency Test (CRCT).
The pencils bear the
town’s logo, “It’s Better in
Braselton.’’
“I wish the students tak
ing the CRCT the best of
luck,” said Braselton coun
cilman Richard Mayberry
in a statement. “I’m sure
these students will make
their teachers, princi
pals, families and friends
proud.”
Watson to enroll at FIT in fall
BEVERLY Ann Watson,
Nicholson, will be enroll
ing at Florida Institute of
Technology, Melbourne Fla.
Watson, who graduat
ed in 2006 from Jackson
County Comprehensive
High School, will become
a member of the Florida
Tech 2010-2011 entering
class, pursuing a degree in
Astronomy/As trophy sics.
She is the daughter of
Barbara Ann Edwards.
