JHS cadets to head JROTC leadership camp

THREE JEFFERSON High
School AFJROTC cadets have
been selected for key leader
ship positions with the Air Force
JROTC Southeastern Cadet
Officer Leadership School’s
(COLS) 2010 camp staff. Cadet
Captain Andre Gonzales, Cadet
Captain Lance Wilson and
Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Maribel
Rodriguez will be representing
the Dragon group in wing lead
ership at COLS this summer at
Mercer University.
The camp is designed to
provide each cadet the level of
leadership training necessary for
him or her to return to school the
following academic year and
help operate the cadet corps.
The camp is challenging and
demanding, with days starting
at 5 a.m. and ending around
10 p.m. The week of training
will include a dining-in, which
is a formal dinner to teach
the cadets the formal process of
dining with other cadets; athlet
ics; drill; and leadership classes.
The week ends with a gradua
tion and awards ceremony. The
cadets chosen to lead the camp
will oversee and command the
basic cadets at the camp. This
year’s camp will have an esti
mated 220 cadets in attendance.
Gonzales was selected as the
training group commander and
has the responsibility of com
manding the two squadrons of
cadets at COLS, which means
he will command all the 220
basic cadets at COLS. He has
the overall responsibility of
ensuring all the basic cadets are
trained and prepared to graduate
from COLS.
Wilson was selected as one of
the two squadron commanders
and will command Squadron
2. He has the responsibility of
overseeing the training, motivat
ing and counseling of a squad
ron of basic cadets. He will
personally supervise 12 flight
commanders to accomplish his
mission.
Rodriguez will serve as a
flight cadre/commander, with
the responsibility of training and
caring for 25 to 30 basic cadets.
In addition to these three
cadets, the JHS AFJROTC
group will be sending eight basic
cadets to COLS this summer.

for Mother’s Morning Out
SIGN UP is under way for the
East Jackson Comprehensive
High School Mother’s Morning
Out Program.
The Mother’s Morning Out
Program is part of a high school
class called Early Childhood
Education. High School stu
dents plan, prepare and teach
lessons on numbers, colors,
letters and shapes as well as
activities that help the children
develop socially, emotionally
and physically.
The Mother’s Morning Out
operates weekly Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays
from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
During the school year,
there will be two sessions. The
first session will be Tuesday,

Jackson County, traveled
to Atlanta recently to com
pete for the title of Georgia
Youth of the Year. During
the competition, he attend
ed a workshop sponsored
by Darden Restaurants,
Inc. Foundation on purs
ing a postsecondary edu
cation. While not selected
as the state winner, Sims
is set to receive a $2,000
college scholarship from
Darden Restaurants, Inc.
Foundation.
September 14, - Thursday,
December 9. The second ses
sion will be Tuesday, February
8, - Thursday, May 12. The
cost of the program is $150
per session. This includes daily
snack and lunch and all sup
plies. To enroll in the Mother’s
Morning Out Program chil
dren should be 3 by September
1, 2010. and must be potty
trained.
The program is limited to
12 three and four year olds.
Applications are accepted on a
first-come, first-served basis.

French Honor Society.
Membership is based on
academic achievement
in French, as well as in
