East Jackson to close
season with doubleheader
ENTERING THE final stretch of the 2010 season, the East
Jackson Eagles were hoping for a strong showing.
Unfortunately, it’s not quite gone that way, as the Eagles lost last
week to North Oconee before dropping two to Riverside Military
Academy.
East Jackson will wrap up their regular season with a home stand
against the Panthers of Union County.
Union County enters the week with an 11-6 region record, and
15-7 overall. The Panthers enter play this week off of a 9-8 victory
over Banks County on Friday.
First pitch in game one on Friday is scheduled for 5 p.m.
NORTH OCONEE
Last Tuesday, the Eagles played host to the Titans of North
Oconee, and were hoping for some good luck to catapult them back
into the win column.
It didn’t work out for them, however, as North Oconee took
charge early, and pulled out to an 8-1 victory.
Following their back-to-back losses to Dawson County, the
Eagles dropped to 4-11 in the region with their third loss in a row.
RIVERSIDE
On Friday, East Jackson played host to Riverside Military
Academy in a doubleheader.
Game one was close, with both teams digging hard for an advan-

WITH THE end of the reg
ular season just ahead, the
Jefferson Dragons are looking
to close in high form after
picking up wins over Rabun
and Banks County in the past
week.
The Dragons will close the
regular season with a Friday
doubleheader against the
Eagles of Riverside Military
Academy.
The Eagles enter play this
week 3-14 in the region and
5-18 overall. They recorded
two of their season wins last
week over East Jackson in a
doubleheader, having defeat
ed only Walnut Grove prior to
those games.
First pitch in game one
Friday night is scheduled for
5 p.m.
RABUN COUNTY
The Dragons faced off
against the Wildcats of Rabun
County Friday in a double-
header on the road.
Game one was a tight affair,
with neither team finding a
way to score through the first
four innings. Jefferson finally
got a runner across in the top
of the first, and then held the
Wildcats scoreless over the
next two and a half innings to
take the 1-0 victory.
Jamie Sexton recorded the
win, giving up just three hits
while striking out 13 batters
in seven innings.
At the plate, Caleb Meek
went 1-2, scoring the game-
wining run. Andrew Bartek
went 1-2. Kyle Hardy went
1-4.
In game two, the Dragons
took control early, moving
out to a 1-0 in the top of the
second after a scoreless first

Panthers take on Archer Thursday
by hosting the Bulldogs of
Morgan County.
Jackson County was look
ing to stop the skid they had
been on since April ninth that
had turned into a four game
losing streak. Despite having
lost to Morgan County back
on March 26, the Panthers
were hoping to find a little
luck on senior night.
It didn’t work out that way,
however, as Morgan County
threw a four-hitter from the
mound while finding success
at the plate.
Morgan County held a 2-0
lead going into the sixth,
when they put five more run
ners across, putting the game
out of reach for the Panthers.
In the end, the Bulldogs won
7-0.
Rob Williams recorded the
loss from the mound, giv
ing up two runs and five hits
through five innings. The loss
leaves Williams 1-2 on the
year.
“We played well defensive
ly, only making one error in
the last inning, but we just
couldn’t put anything togeth
er at the plate,” said coach
Tommy Fountain.
ELBERT COUNTY
On Friday, the Panthers
traveled to Elberton to face the
Blue Devils of Elbert County.
The previous game had been
a win for Jackson County, so
hopes were high at getting
back in the win column for the
Panther Nation.
Elbert County took con
trol early, moving ahead 3-0.

THE JACKSON County
Panthers are looking to end
their season on a high note.
Despite a good overall sea
son that’s seen the Panthers
go 12-11 going into this week,
their region record hasn’t
reflected that effort, with a
5-11 record going into this
week.
The Panthers have one
more shot to end their sea
son on the same terms that
they began it. That will come
Thursday, when they travel
to Lawrenceville to face the
Archer Tigers.
First pitch is scheduled for
5:55 p.m.
MORGAN COUNTY
Last Wednesday, the
Panthers played their final
home game of the season

Jefferson added two more
runs in the top of the third
while continuing to hold the
Wildcats scoreless.
Rabun County got their first
run on the board in the bottom
of the fourth, then moved to
within one run of the Dragons
by getting a second run across
in the bottom of the fifth.
Jefferson was able to hold
the Wildcats at bay, as the
sixth and seventh innings
passed scoreless. In the end,
the Dragons came away with
a 3-2 victory.
Jake Fields recorded the
win, giving up one hit and two
runs while striking out seven
in just over four innings.
Kyle Hardy led at the plate,
going 2-4 with two RBIs and a
homerun. Jamie Sexton went
2-4. Jake Fields went 1-3.
Andrew Bartek went 1-2.
BANKS COUNTY
On Tuesday, the Dragons
were slated to travel to Banks
County to face the Leopards.
That game was postponed
until tonight (Wednesday) due
to wet weather conditions.
