JMS REGION TRACK CHAMPIONS
Jefferson Middle School had five athletes win Middle School Region Championships
in track and field recently. Kyle Kashuba with wins in two events, the 800-meters and
1600-meters. Mason Hamrick won the pole vault by jumping 12’6”, which is a new
JMS record. For the girls, Reese Bowles won in the 1600-meters, Camille Porter won
in the 800-meters and Abby Carson won in the pole vault. Pictured are, left to right,

The Jefferson Middle School Lady Dragons won the region championship recently,
following it up with a second place effort in the NEGIAA tournament. Team members
include, pictured left to right, front row, Emma Pruitt, Paige Watson, Kayla Brown,

DOUBLES WINNERS
Jefferson resident Zachary Bost and his doubles partner, Kyle Childree of Smyrna
won the boys 16 doubles title in Memphis, Tennessee, at the USTA Southern
Designated Bullfrog tennis tournament. The Georgia team ousted the number one,
two and four seeds during their successful run through the tournament. Zachary is
a sophomore playing high school tennis at Jefferson High School.

of the fifth. Ryan Shekey took
to the mound in relief of Austin
Robinson and got the Panthers
out of the inning without fur
ther damage.
Jackson County came up
with their first two runs of the
night in the top of the sixth and
was threatening more with the
bases loaded. But all three run
ners were stranded, keeping the
Panthers four runs down.
Quinn Grogan came on in
relief on the mound in the bot
tom of the inning, but gave up
three runs to the Blue Devils.
In the top of the seventh, the
Panthers began rallying, cut
ting the lead to 9-5. Jackson
County was threatening again,
with runners on second and
third, but they would be left
stranded again, as the Blue
Devils won 9-5.

INVITATION TO BID
Sealed proposals from vendors will be
received by the Jefferson City Board of
Education Office, 575 Washington Street,
Jefferson, Georgia, 30549, until 11 a.m. on
May 27, 2010 for the track resurfacing
project located on Memorial Drive,
Jefferson, Georgia.
At the time and place noted above, the
proposals for the project will be publicly
opened. No extension of the bidding period
will be made.
The Request for Proposals may be obtained
at the Jefferson City Board of Education
Office at 575 Washington Street, Jefferson,
Georgia 30549. Phone (706) 367-2880.
Contract, if awarded, will be on a lump
sum basis. No bid may be withdrawn for a
period of 35 days after time and date of
opening.
The owner reserves the right to reject any
or all bids and to waive technicalities and
informalities.

It appeared that East Jackson had victory in
their grasp late, as they held a 6-5 lead over
Riverside going into the top of the seventh.
But a two-run homer in the top of the inning
by Riverside gave them the lead and the even
tual win, 7-6, in game one.
Game two was much like the first, with both
teams looking for an advantage over the course
of seven innings.
A three-run homerun by Riverside again
gave them an advantage, as they went on to
beat East Jackson 11-10 to take the double-
header sweep.

fied for the 100-meter hurdles

Erin Knight and Taronji both
qualified for the 800-meters.
The team of Regina Watkins,

Knight and Baron qualified for
the 4x400.
State competition is sched
uled for May 6-8 in Albany.
Austin Robinson recorded
the loss, going 6-3 so far on
the year.
Trey Sorrells put a three run
homerun out of the park late to
help the Panthers threaten in
the last two innings.
“We just had a lot of missed
opportunities offensively and
defensively,” Fountain said.
“We stranded seven runners
in the last three innings. They
took advantage of six stolen
bases.”
Fountain said in the last two

“We’ve got one more week
left,” he said. “We’ve got to
keep plugging along. I think
when we lost the second game
in a row last week and were
knocked out of the playoff
race, it did something to our
confidence. We haven’t been
able to get it back. We’ve got
two more games to get that
swagger back.”
OCONEE COUNTY
On Tuesday, the Panthers
traveled to Watkinsville to
face the Warriors of Oconee
County.
Jackson County had been
looking to mm their luck around
with a late season surge.
It didn’t happen on this day,
however, as the Warriors won
their 11th straight game by
defeating the Panthers 9-2.
Rob Williams led at the
plate with a triple, while Zach
Sticher had a hit and a run and
Austin Robinson had a hit.
