Driving while medicated leads to recent arrest
A WOMAN who had allegedly taken
too many prescription pills was arrested
by Braselton police for trying to drive,
according to an incident report.
On Thursday, a Braselton officer went
to a Blanc Way address, where a woman
had taken too many Xanax, Soma and
Loratab pills, police said.
Later that day, another officer was
called to the Pilot Travel Center on Ga.
Hwy. 53, where a RV camper was block
ing one lane of traffic.
The officer said the female driver had
slurred speech and appeared very slug
gish, according to an incident report.
The woman said she didn't have a
driver’s license.
The woman said she got to the store
by following a friend and her vehicle
ran out of gas.
The woman — identified as Nancy
Elaine Hill, 50, of Braselton — was
arrested for DUI and driving while unli
censed or with an expired license. She
was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the
Braselton Police Department last week
included:
•missing person at a Legends Club
Circle address, where a man said he
was concerned about his friend. The
man said he had noticed that his friend's
behavior had changed in recent months,
and he sent a letter thanking and apolo
gizing to everyone for everything he had
done. The man was concerned some
thing would happen to his friend. The
friend’s wife had not seen him in a
couple of days. There was also no con
tact with the man on his cell phone. A
missing person report was also filed in
Gwinnett County.
•theft by taking at Papa Jack's Country
Kitchen, located on Spout Springs Road,
where a man said his employees saw a
black pick-up truck drive up to the store
and a suspect steal a rack used to store
food.
•damage to property at a Ga. Hwy. 53
address, where a woman said she was
driving behind a truck whose load in a
trailer was dropping rocks. One of the
rocks hit the windshield of the woman’s
vehicle and caused a small crack.
BRASELTON ARRESTS
The Braselton Police Department
made the following arrests last week:
•Saul Delgado, 24, 2925 Maverick
Trail, Gainesville, failure to maintain
lane and DUI.
•Douglas Curtis Pierce, 34, 6852
Grand Hickory Drive, Braselton, failure
to maintain lane, failure to obey a traffic
control device and DUI.
•Matthew Alan Lewis, 40, 3610 Lively

Counterfeit bill among incidents reported by Commerce PD
ANOTHER counterfeit $20 bill showed up in Commerce
last week, according to the Commerce Police Department.
A clerk at the Kangaroo convenience store. South Broad
Street, told police that a white male gave her the bogus bill
while paying for a $40 money order. She said the man was a
regular customer who works nearby.
Police have reported a continual stream of counterfeit bills
over the past several months, most of them $20’s but also
some $10 bills.
Last week, someone passed 10 $20 bills at a downtown
restaurant. All had the same serial numbers, according to the
police, but that number did not match up with serial numbers
from phony bills passed at other locations.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents requiring police investigation during the
past week include:
•theft by taking at the parking lot of the Flying J
Travel Plaza, Maysville Road. A man driving for Lawrence
Transportation System said he parked at the truck stop for
about five hours, then drove his load to Auburn, Ala. At his
destination, a security guard noticed that the seal on the
trailer doors was broken, indicating illegal entry had been
made. The driver said he saw and heard nothing out of the
ordinary while parked at Commerce, but assumed someone
entered the trailer while it was parked there. The report did
not indicate if anything was missing.
•harassment reported by a Woodbine Street resident who
said a black female drove by in a gray Ford, yelling curses at
her. She told the police she and the suspect, who she named,
had been in an altercation a few days before and she was told
to call 911 if she saw the woman again.
•criminal damage to property at Old Maysville Road in
which a 47-year-old white female told police that someone
apparently dumped sugar in the gas tank of her car and that
of her ex-husband, who had spent the night while visiting
their child. The victim gave police the name of a suspect with
whom she’s had altercations in the past.
•theft by taking on Lathan Road in which a 54-year-old
white male told police that someone took a package of medi
cations UPS had left on his doorstep. The package contained
a quantity of Oxycodone 5 mg., according to the police
report.

said Jim Kelly, manager of

during smog season when
levels of particle pollution

Shannon Sell
Once you decide to sell your home, step two is setting an
asking price. You will want to strive for a balance between
generating offers and receiving top dollar.
Your real estate professional will perform a Competitive
Market Analysis (CMA), an estimate of your home's "fair
market value" - the price that educated buyers will most
likely be willing to pay based on listings and sales of
nearby homes similar to yours. Your agent will not
establish the price, but will provide the information you
need to make that decision yourself.
In a hot market, you have the advantage, but would still
want to avoid overpricing, which is always unproductive.
However, in a neutral or buyers market (such as we are
suffering today), you need to be particularly cautious in
your approach to setting a price.
In soft markets, price reductions are more common,
fewer offers are received and sellers experience longer
listing periods. Therefore you have to establish your
priority; is it more important for you to sell quickly or are
you set on getting the most money possible? Like it or not,
one option simply must be more critical than the other.
Have a third party, like your agent, help you see your
home as a commodity, with positive and negative selling
points. Price your home objectively and competitively and
be prepared to negotiate, or get ready to exercise some
patience as you prepare your move.
