TOURING BATTLE SITES
Members of Jefferson Boy Scout Troop 158 recently toured two key Revolutionary War battlefields in South
Carolina during a weekend camping trip. The group toured Kings Mountain battlefield and Cowpens battlefield.

“West Side Story’ to be presented April 29-May 1
JEFFERSON High School’s
Drama Dragons will present
the musical, “West Side Story,”
on April 29, 30 and May 1 at
7:30 p.m. in the Performing
Arts Center.
Tickets are $5 for students
and $10 for adults. Tickets
will be sold at door starting at
7 p.m.
The show will feature JHS
faculty members and 36 JHS
students. Principal, Kevin
Smith, will be playing the role
of the big. loud, goon-like cop
named Krupke, Coach Paul,
JHS driver’s education teacher
and basketball team coach, will
be playing the role of the mean,
sardonic policeman named Lt.
Schrank.
JHS Senior Kali Speed with
be playing the role of Maria
and Donnie Malone will play
the role of Tony. Other cast

“West Side Story,” which
opened on September 26,1957,
is a landmark in American musi
cal theatre history. Directed
and choreographed by Jerome
Robbins, the play, a musical
adaptation of Shakespeare’s
“Romeo and Juliet.” transplants
the young couple to the violent
streets of New York where they
are doomed by social condi
tions they cannot control. The
musical covers a period of only
two days; scenes blend into one
another as the inevitable pro
gression of events unfolds.
KBMS schedules sixth
grade parent visitation
A SIXTH grade parent
visitation will be held at
Kings Bridge Middle School
at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May
4.
Parents of fifth grade stu
dents at Benton and South
Jackson elementary schools
are invited to attend the
dinner. A spaghetti dinner
will be served in the Eagle
Cafe from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
Students will have the
opportunity to sign up for
band, chorus and clubs.

Newspaper accepting
home-schooled grads
MAINSTREET
Newspapers Inc. — which
includes The Jackson
Herald, The Commerce
News and The Banks County
News - is now accepting
photos of graduating home-
schooled students for its
annual graduation section.
The graduation section
will feature local high
school graduates and will
be published Wednesday,
May 19.
The deadline for sub
mitting photos of home-
schooled graduates is
Wednesday, May 5, at noon.
Absolutely no photos will
be accepted past the dead
line. The home-schooled
student must live in Jackson
or Banks counties.
Photos should be clear
and in focus. Photos of
poor quality - such as those
printed on computer paper
- may not be published.
The photo should contain
the student’s first, middle
and last names, along with
the city of their residence
and a contact phone num
ber ( which will not be pub
lished). A formal photo is
preferred, but not required.
Digital photos with
at least 150 dpi may be
e-mailed to news@main-
streetnews.com.
Photos may also be deliv
ered to The Jackson Herald
office in Jefferson, The
Banks County News office
in Homer or The Commerce
News office in Commerce.

Fundraiser planned by recreation soccer team
THE EAST Jackson Blast, one
of the Jackson County Parks and
Recreation U10 soccer teams,
is holding several fundraising
events to cover travel costs to
compete in a tournament at the
end of May.
The team will also be selling
tickets for a raffle to be held at
the Daisy Festival on May 1.
There will also be a bake
sale outside Quality Foods in
Commerce on Saturday, May 8,
from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Raffle tickets can be pur
chased at the car wash, the Daisy
Festival, or any time before May
