EJMS BAND EARNS EXCELLENT RATING
The East Jackson Middle School Jazz Band recently earned an excellent rat
ing for its performance for professional jazz adjudicators at the GEMA District
13 Jazz Performance Evaluation. The event was hosted by Miles and Helen
Adams, and held at Jackson County Comprehensive High School. Shown are:

JCCHS BAND RATED ‘SUPERIOR’
The Jackson County Comprehensive High School band was rated “superior” for its
performance in the Dixie Classic National Music Festival held recently in Richmond,
Va. Students are shown in front of the Chrysler Art Museum in Norfolk, Va. The band
performed for a panel of three judges and received a “superior” rating from each judge
- that’s the highest rating possible. The JCCHS band received the second highesl
score of all the bands that performed in the festival. As part of its biennial spring tour,
the band also visited several sites of historic significance including the Chrysler Art
Museum and Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, and The Franklin Institute, Constitution
Center, Independence Hall, and the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Miles
and Helen Adams are band directors for JCCHS.
Three JHS cadets scheduled to head 2010 JROTC leadership camp

School AFJROTC cadets have
been selected for key leadership
positions with the Air Force
JROTC Southeastern Cadet
Officer Leadership School’s
(COLS) 2010 camp staff. Cadet
Captain Andre Gonzales, Cadet
Captain Lance Wilson and
Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Maribel
Rodriguez will be representing
the Dragon group in wing lead
ership at COLS this summer at
Mercer University.
The camp is designed to
provide each cadet the level
of leadership training neces
sary for him or her to return to
school the following academic
year and help operate the cadet
corps. The camp is challenging
and demanding, with days start
ing at 5 a.m. and ending around
10 p.m. The week of training
will include a dining-in, which
is a formal dinner to teach the
cadets the formal process of
dining with other cadets; athlet
ics; drill; and leadership classes.
The week ends with a gradua
tion and awards ceremony. The
cadets chosen to lead the camp
will oversee and command the
basic cadets at the camp. This
year’s camp will have an esti
mated 220 cadets in attendance.
Gonzales was selected as the
training group commander and
has the responsibility of com
manding the two squadrons of
cadets at COLS, which means
he will command all the 220
basic cadets at COLS. He has
the overall responsibility of
ensuring all the basic cadets are
trained and prepared to graduate
from COLS.

Wilson was selected as one of
the two squadron commanders
and will command Squadron
2. He has the responsibility of
overseeing the training, motivat
ing and counseling of a squad
ron of basic cadets. He will
personally supervise 12 flight
commanders to accomplish his
mission.
Rodriguez will serve as a
flight cadre/commander, with
the responsibility of training and
caring for 25 to 30 basic cadets.
In addition to these three
cadets, the JHS AFJROTC
group will be sending eight
basic cadets to COLS this sum
mer.
