Dragons take third at region meet
THE JEFFERSON Dragons
came away from this week's
region meet with a third place
effort and with several team
members qualifying for the
state meet in two weeks.
The Dragons scored 95
points to overall winner North
Oconee's 143. Oglethorpe
County scored 105. Trailing
Jefferson was Riverside, East
Jackson, Walnut Grove, Banks
County, Dawson County, Rabun
County and Fannin County.
Tyler Porter won the region
title in the pole vault, and
advances to the state meet.
Josh Kies won two region
titles, taking first in the pole
vault and in discus. Derrick
Perkins won in the 110-meter
hurdles, placed second in the
300-meter hurdles and placed
second in the triple jump.
Sky Porter advanced to the
state meet with a second place
in the pole vault. He also
placed third in the long jump.
Also advancing to state was
Nick Fulks with a second place
in the discus.
Other placers included Noah
McCarthy, who placed fourth
in the high jump. Cale Pirtle
placed fifth in the 1600-meters.
Tyler Porter placed fifth
in the 110-meter hurdles.
Shaquille Maxey placed sixth
in the triple jump. Michael

Stephenson placed seventh in
the 800-meters.
The 4x100 team placed
fourth in their event, while the
4x400 team placed third.
Up next is the boys state
meet, slated for May 13-15 at
Jefferson.

Eagles qualify two for state meet

AFTER BEING delayed by
rain, the East Jackson Eagles
came away with a fifth place
result from this week's 8-AA
track and field region meet at
Jefferson.
The Eagles scored 72.50
points to winner North
Oconee's 143. Oglethorpe
County, Jefferson and
Riverside followed. Trailing
East Jackson was Walnut
Grove, Banks County,
Dawson County, Rabun
County and Fannin County.
In addition, two Eagles
qualified for state.
Nick Fulks recorded a sec
ond place result in Friday's
discus final to send him to
the state meet, while a second
place by Brandon Banks in
the 800-meters sends him as
well.
The state meet will be held
at Jefferson beginning on
May 13.
Other placers on Friday
included Matt Damron, who
placed third in the pole vault.
Shaq Alexander placed third
in the 200-meters.
Deon Sewell placed fourth
in the triple jump. Cale
Pirtle placed fifth in the
1600-meters. Lance Haley
placed fifth in the shot put.
Wade Mize placed fifth in the
400-meters.
Kevin Kesler placed fifth in
the 3200-meters.
Brandon Banks placed sev
enth in the high jump. C.J.
Allen placed seventh in the
long jump and fifth in the
100-meters. Dylan Kemp
placed seventh in the 110-
meter hurdles and seventh in
the 300-meter hurdles. Ronnie
Slizewski placed eighth in the
pole vault. Brandon Garrett
tied for eighth in the high
jump. Blake Albright placed
eighth in the 3200-meters.
The 4x100 team placed
fifth in their event. The
4x400 team placed fifth in
that event.
Up next is the boys state
meet, to be held at Jefferson
High School May 13-15.

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners
determined by Resolution that the Hog Mountain
Road Project shall be located in GMD 245 and 428
of Jackson County. The exact date of the original
location of the Hog Mountain Road Project was April
19, 2010. A plat or map of the project showing the
exact date of the original location of the project is on
file at the office of the Jackson County Board of
Commissioners, 67 Athens Street, Jefferson,
Georgia 30549. Any interested party may obtain a
copy of same by writing to the office of the Jackson
County Board of Commissioners and paying a
nominal cost therefor.
