SUPERIOR
Chamber Announces Another New Industry
The Jackson County Area Cham
ber of Commerce is proud to announce
that the Dayton Superior, a manufac
turer and distributor of products used in
concrete construction and masonry
construction, has announced it will relo
cate in Braselton.
Dayton Superior will occupy 200,000 sq. ft. in the Park 85 Distribution Center, a Duke Realty
development. The company will employ approximately 100 people. "We are extremely excited to
welcome Dayton Superior to our community," said Shane Short, president and chief executive officer
of the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce. "Dayton Superior is a leader in its industry and
will be a great addition to the county."
Though the company has manufacturing and distribution facilities throughout the U.S., it
needed a stronger presence in the southeast, where many of its customers are located. "We wanted
a site that would allow us to further improve our productivity and the way we service our custom
ers," said Rick Zimmerman, the company's president and chief executive officer. "Our goal was to be
within a days reach of a large segment of our customer base."
Company executives believe their investment in the new Class-A facility will provide the com
petitive advantage they seek. The Braselton facility allows them to consolidate five manufacturing
and distribution operations under one roof, and positions their products closer to a number of the
region's primary freight lanes. The facility will have approximately six acres of outdoor space that
will serve as a primary base for Dayton Superior's southeastern equipment rental business, which
provides the construction industry with concrete forms and braces.
By investing in a modern facility and upgraded technology, company officials believe they will
be able to lower overall fixed costs and improve productivity, efficiency and customer service.
"We've invested in new manufacturing machinery with some of the most technologically advanced
capabilities and quality controls in our industry," said Jeff Dawley, Dayton Superior's president of
manufacturing.
Those interested in applying for employment with Dayton Superior are instructed to go to
the Department of Labor in Athens to complete an application. Applications are also accepted on
monster.com.
The annual Chili Cook-Off was held at YearOne in Braselton on
Saturday, April 17. The event drew thousands of visitors and teams
who cooked hundreds of gallons of chili. The winners of this year's
event were: Best Tasting: First, Bradford & Legg Wealth Management;
Second, Northeast Georgia Health Systems; Third, Living Jackson
Magazine. Showmanship: First, Legacy Landscape Management,
Second, EMC Security, Third, Living Jackson Magazine. The DJ’s
Choice went to Bradford & Legg Wealth Management. And the top
prize, the People's Choice went to Full Moon Sales. Congratulations
to the winners and thanks to all this year's participants.
Chamber Hires Marketing Coordinator
The Chamber is proud to announce the hiring of Kim Kyst as its new Marketing
Coordinator. Kim is an experienced sales person and a resident of Jefferson. "Many
may know Kim through her work with the 4-H program," said Shane Short, presi
dent and CEO. "Although they may not recognize her name, thousands know her
as the 'lady with the lamas' who often brings them to parades and community
events."
Kim's primary responsibility is member relations, membership and marketing.

Applications and Nominations Accepted for Leadership Jackson
Leadership Jackson was created to increase the quality
and quantity of men and women capable of accepting leadership
roles in varied community organizations. Participants are
exposed to a variety of social and economic issues facing our
area. This awareness helps develop informed, civic-oriented
leaders who are interested in helping direct the future of Jackson
County.
Leadership Jackson consists of nine full-day classes held one day a month from August
through May, with an overnight session in June as the kick-off and graduation of the prior class. The
classes are held at locations in Jackson County that best relate to the topic area. During each session,
participants are introduced to issues by means of panels, lectures, tours, group discussions and
simulations. In each case, the program is designed to address specific areas rather than vague
concepts.
The leaders will strive to lead beyond their own self-interest and will work together as a
group to learn what is good for Jackson County.
Participants are selected using an objective process with information presented on a com
pleted program application. For more information about the nomination and/or application
process, visit jacksoncountyga.com.
