Jimmy Atkinson
ROYSTON - Jimmy
Marion Atkinson, 70, died
Monday, May 3, 2010, at the
Cobb Memorial Hospital in
Royston.
Born in Franklin County on
June 21, 1939, he was the son
of the late W.T. and Martha
Ann Bailey Atkinson. He
was retired from Beaulieu of
America and was a member
of the Bowersville Church of
God.
Survivors include his wife,
Helen Atkinson, Royston;
sons, Stoney Norris, Royston,
and David Norris, Danielsville;
daughters, Gwen Duncan,
Royston, and Tina Headen,
Toccoa; brothers, Billy
Atkinson and Tony Atkinson,
both of Royston; sisters,
Karen Coile, Comer, and
Daphne McCarty, Royston;
eight grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, May 6, from the
Bowersville Church of God
with the Revs. Gettis Allen
and Sammy Cutshall officiat
ing. Burial was in the Rose
Hill Cemetery.

ELBERTON - Louise
Allgood Berryman, 98, died
Tuesday, May 4, 2010.
Born in Oglethorpe County,
she was the daughter of the
late John William and Nancy
“Betty” Elizabeth Gunter
Allgood. She was a member
of Carlton Baptist Church
and was a homemaker. Mrs.
Berryman was preceded in
death by her husband, Joseph
Welthy Berryman.
Survivors include daughters
and sons-in-law, Maxine and
Bobby McMurray, Marilyn
and Charles Heard, Beth and
Alan Vaughter and Joy and
John Jordan; sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Harlan and Peggy
Berryman, Faine Berryman
and Betty Carter and Wendall
and Patti Berryman; 15 grand
children; and 26 great-grand
children.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, May 6, at Carlton
Baptist Church with the Rev.
Dwight Duhon officiating.
Burial was in Carlton City
Cemetery. Pallbearers were

DECATUR - Gloria Jean
Cannon, 68, died Saturday,
May 1, 2010, at her daugh
ter's residence following an
extended illness.
Born on September 24,
1941, in Roberta, she was the
daughter of the late Joseph
and Ruth Harrison Irvin. She
worked at McKesson as a
customer service representa
tive and was of the Baptist
denomination. Mrs. Cannon
was preceded in death by a
brother, Charles Irvin.
Survivors include her hus
band, Hoyle Cannon, Decatur;
daughter and son-in-law, Tanya
and Kris Schwab, Braselton;
stepbrother, Dennis Irvin,
Mauk; sister, Rachel Vines,
Temple; and grandchildren,
Lindsey and Kristina Schwab.

member of New Canaan
Baptist Church.

Stanley Duckett
HOLLINGSWORTH
COMMUNITY - Stanley
Duckett, 60, died Wednesday,
May 5, 2010, at Northeast
Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Jackson County on
September 28, 1949, he was
the son of Lila Mae Chambers
Duckett of the Hollingsworth
Community and the late Young
Duckett. He was employed as
a landfill manager with Green
Leaf Landfill in Cumming
and was previously the land
fill manager at Habersham
County Landfill, where he
served for 30 plus years. He
was a member of Hazel Creek
Baptist Church and enjoyed
gardening, hunting and spend
ing time with his family, espe
cially his grandchildren. Mr.
Duckett was preceded in death
by brothers, Wilton Duckett
and Dolphus Duckett.
Survivors in addition to his
mother include his wife of
41 years, Betty Ann Duckett,
Hollingsworth Community;
sons and daughters-in-law,
Timmy and Michelle Duckett
and Phillip and Kim Duckett,
all of the Hollingsworth
Community; sister and
brother-in-law, Debra and
Tommy White, Rock Springs
Community; brother, David

ATHENS - J.C. Fortson, 85,
died Tuesday, May 4, 2010.
A native of Madison County,
he was born on December 26,
1924, the son of the late Sam
and Eunice Smith Fortson. He
served in the
United States
Navy during
World War
II and was employed with
Georgia Natural Gas Company
for 25 years. He was of the
Baptist denomination.
He was a devoted and loving
husband, father, grandfather
and great-grandfather loved
ones stated. He was a pas
sionate farmer, gardener and
woodworker.
Survivors include his wife
of 66 years, Myrle Edwards
Fortson, Athens; sons and
daughters-in-law, Larry
and Janie Fortson, Juliette,
and Jerry and Kay Fortson,
Colbert; grandchildren, Chris
Fortson (Lisa), Colbert,
Brook Hayes (Jay), Macon,
and Jason Fortson (Valerie),
Comer; great-grandchildren,
Isaac Hayes, Macon, Jake
Strickland and Tyler Fortson,
both of Colbert, and Abby
Fortson, Comer.

late Bennie S. Paul Sr. and
Stella Cooper Paul Spiegel.
She was retired from Blue Bell
after 40 years of service. Mrs.
King was preceded in death by
her husband, Walter Eugene
King; and brothers, Lanier
Clinton Paul and Bennie S.
Paul. Jr.

Joyce P. Golden, Colbert;

COLBERT - Mildred
Russell Mansfield, 87, died
Sunday, May 9, 2010, follow
ing an extended illness.
She had previously lived in
Rayle for 35 years and served
her Lord as a member of
County Line Baptist Church in
Rayle. She was a member of
Georgia Campers on Mission
for 30 years. Mrs. Mansfield
was preceded in death by two
grandsons.
Survivors include her hus
band of 66 years, Marion E.
Mansfield; daughters, Sandra
Lapczynski, Colbert, and
Shirley Nye, Spartanburg,
S.C.; five grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, May 12, from
the Moon's Grove Baptist
Church in Colbert. Burial was
in Rest Haven Cemetery in
Washington.

homemaker. Mrs. Potts was
preceded in death by her hus
band, W.A. Aubrey Potts.

and a sister, Floy Cowan,

Nell Segars
GAINESVILLE - Nell
Tolbert Segars, 76, died
Saturday, May 8, 2010.
A native of Jackson County,
she had lived in Hall County
since 1963, and was the
daughter of the late Jesse and
Ruby Spratlin Tolbert. Mrs.
Segars was preceded in death
by a brother, Alfred “Tabo”
Tolbert.
She was a graduate of
Jefferson High School. She
worked as a teacher and
director of the Children's
Development Center at the
First Presbyterian Church for a
number of years before going
to work for Doctors Askew,
Browning and Jenkins, where
she was the office manager
for 20 years. She was a mem
ber of the First Presbyterian
Church of Gainesville. She
was a devoted wife, mother
and grandmother, a wonderful
cook and a self-taught pianist
and seamstress, loved ones
stated. She loved spending
time with her family of whom
she loved dearly and will be
missed by all that knew her.
Survivors include her hus
band of 55 years, Curtis Segars,
Gainesville; son and daughter-
in-law, Alan and Lynn Segars,
Marietta; daughters and sons-
in-law, Laurie and Ben Mason,
Gainesville, Julie and Barry
Barr, Valdosta; grandchildren,
Will Segars and Viktor Segars,
both of Marietta, Ashley
Whitmire and Stephen Mason,
both of Gainesville, Brad Barr,
Colorado Springs, Colo., and
Alston Barr, Valdosta; great

Northeast Georgia Medical
Center in Gainesville.
He was born in Jackson
County, the son of the late
William Johnson and Mattie
Lee Alexander Smith. He was
a commercial electrician.
Survivors include sons,
Thomas A. Smith and Richard
L. Smith, both of Jefferson;
daughters, Donna Patten,
Cumming, and Carla Hill,
Commerce; brothers, John
Smith, Athens, and Kenneth
Smith, Homer; and nine
grandchildren.
The body was cremated and
no services are planned at this
time.

Company as a welder and
retired after thirty-three and
one-half years of service. He
was of the Baptist denomina
tion. Mr. Young was preceded
in death by a daughter, Erica
Young; and brothers, Bobby
Young, Steve Young and Ricky
Young.

his father include his loving
wife, Mary Young, Flowery
Branch; a son, Derry Young,
Gainesville; daughters and
sons-in-law, Debbie Young,
Flowery Branch, Dee and
Felton Shelton and Lynn

Gainesville, Sherrie and
David Jones, Macon,; seven
