“We haven’t even mentioned
it, to be honest,” Caputo said.
“Starting in about January, we
were working kids out in the
mornings. The ones that we
worked out from January until
now figured that out quick a
long time ago. We haven’t
had much of that bleed over.”
Caputo said the goal for
their spring practice is pretty
clear.
“Our goal is to carry every
one of them through and be
committed by the end of the
spring,” he said.
Caputo said hopefully, that
means all of them.

practice is slated to contin

on the field. Caputo said the
key to maintaining that high
energy level comes from his
coaching staff.
“With the assistants that we
have and the kids that we
have, a lot of times it just
exudes enthusiasm,” he said.
“Our coaches are high octane,
high energy guys with a lot
of enthusiasm. It’s almost
impossible for that not to be
contagious. Plus, our kids for
the most part know what we
want done and how to prac
tice. It’s been a good looking
three days so far.”
Caputo said that so far,
there’s been no specter of
expectation from last season,
which saw the Eagles go 10-2
overall, and 8-1 in the region
while finishing second in
IT’S A sure sign that sum
mer is just around the corner.
It’s the sounds of hard work
and high hopes under the
springtime sun.
It’s the sound of spring
football, as the East Jackson
Eagles took to the practice
field over the last week in
preparation for what they hope
will be another strong year of
Eagles Football.
According to head coach
Frank Caputo, about 110 kids
signed up to take part in spring
practice.
“I’m not sure that they’ve
all been on the field, but we’ve
been real close to it,” Caputo
said.
Practice got under way last
Wednesday.
“For a Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday, we were pleased
with the turnout and the
attention that the kids have
been giving us,” Caputo said.
“For the first three days, we
were really pleased with how
they’ve been catching on.”
With the loss of about 22
seniors from last year’s roster,
one of the goals this spring is
to begin looking for kids to fill
those empty slots.
“We’re working at it and
they’re working at it,” Caputo
said. “It’s a diligent process.
I think the kids are all excited
and battling for a spot. Do
we have any clear-cut guys
that have stepped up yet? Not
really.”
The excitement is evident
from the kids as they practice

AFTER WEATHER delays,
the Jefferson Lady Dragon golf
team finally wrapped up their
season by taking part in the
state match Monday.
Jefferson didn’t disappoint,
as they finished third in the state
behind GAC and Westminster.
The Lady Dragons were
led by sophomore Hanna
Chapman, who shot a 90 and
junior Kara Perry, who shot
a 96.
“Brooke Whelchel, Paige
Pate, and Anna Alexander all
were invaluable to the success
of the Lady Dragons this year
also,” said coach Tom Parker.
Monday’s result, which was
the highest finish at the state
tournament in school history,
came on the heels of the Lady
Dragons sixth consecutive
region title.
“The girls set the goal of fin
ishing in the top three and did
so,” Parker said.
The team will lose only
one senior next year, Brooke
Whelchel, who is currently
entertaining possibilities of
competing in golf at the next
level.

Rural Development’s Preliminary Notification
for Potential Floodplain conversion for the City of Jefferson
The US Department of Agriculture, Rural Development is currently reviewing an
application from the City of Jefferson for financial assistance in the form of ARC
Grant. The specific elements of the proposal are as follows:
The production capacity for the City of Jefferson’s water treatment plant will be
increased by changing to high rate filtration. This will be done by changing the
media material, modifying the flocculation basin, modifying the pipe gallery and
other appurtenances at the existing plant They will also add a new 9800 sq.ft
chemical storage building which will be located in the floodplain of Curry Creek.
Since the water treatment plant is located in a floodplain avoidance is difficult since
the chemical building needs to be near the filter building. The 100 year floodplain
elevation has been determined and the first floor elevation will be a foot above the
floodplain in accordance with the city’s ordinance.
The purpose of this notice is to inform the public of this proposed conversion and
request comments concerning the conversion.
The proposed project will be available for review at city hall and the Monroe Area
Rural Development Office. Any person interested in commenting on the proposed
action may do so by sending such comments within 30 days following the date of
this publication to Monroe Area Rural Development Office, 111 East Spring St.,
Monroe, GA 30655 or Jefferson City Hall. For further information contact Jane
Ferguson, Area Director, at (770) 267-1413, Ext. 109.
