National Assessment of
Educational Progress.
The Southern Regional
Education Board is a multi
state compact for educa
tion, founded in 1948.
High Schools That Work,
launched in 1987. is the
largest high school improve
ment effort in the United
States, with more than 1,100
school sites in 31 states, the
District of Columbia, and
Calgary, Canada.

JCCHS student wins
congressional art contest
AARON EDWARDS, a
senior at Jackson County
Comprehensive High School,
was named the winner of the
2010 Congressional Art Contest
by U.S. Rep. Paul Broun. M.D.
(Ga-10).
Edwards is invited to attend
the unveiling of his white pencil
sketch, titled “Crazy Horse,” at
the U.S. Capitol where
his sketch will be displayed for
one year.
In addition. Edwards is eligi
ble to receive the Artistic Honors
Scholarship from Savannah
College of Art and Design.
Twenty-eight high school
students from the 10th
Congressional District partici-
patedin this year's Congressional
Art Competition. Three judges
were provided by the University
of Georgia.
GRADUATING SENIORS
Graduating seniors were recognized during the recent
East Jackson Elementary School military ball. Shown

TEAM CAPTAINS AWARD
Three special team captains were recognized at the
East Jackson Comprehensive High School military ball
for their leadership during the school year. Shown are:

commander of the saber team; Cadet Major Taylor
Quarles, commander of the raider team; and Shannon

SERVES AS EMCEE
LTC Tom Taylor, the senior
Army instructor at East
Jackson Comprehensive
High School, was the emcee
for the recent military ball.
This is the 10th annual
JROTC military ball in
Jackson County. This year’s
event included recognition
of the 10 former cadet battal
ion commanders. LTC Taylor,
who started the JROTC pro
gram in Jackson County 11
years ago, is retiring at the
end of this school year.
