LATIN-AMERICAN CULTURE FAIR
More than 150 students from Jackson County Comprehensive High School and Jefferson
High School recently participated in a Latin-American culture fair entitled “Cultural A.I.M.”
at Gordon Street Center. The students completed interdisciplinary research about the
ancient civilizations of the Aztec, Inca and Maya. They collaborated with students from
the other school to form a presentation of their research. They also created works of art,
such as those these Indians made, such as bark paintings and God’s eyes.
STUDENTS CHEER ON TEACHER

Ehmcke using a fire hose to knock down a cone at the West Jackson Fire
Department.
A LESSON AT FIRE DEPARTMENT
Karen Taylor and Bette Ehmcke recently took their West Jackson Primary first grade
classes to the West Jackson Fire Department for a lesson about fire safety. The tour
was not only informational, but the fire department mixed in some activities for the
students to enjoy. The favorite activity was when the firefighters set up an orange
cone and allowed the kids to try to knock it over by using the water from the fire hose
connected to a fire truck. Daniel Escabar is shown trying to knock down a cone.
