Burglary reported at Hurricane Shoals office
A BURGLARY was reported last week at
the office at Hurricane Shoals Park, located at
416 Hurricane Shoals Road, Maysville.
A small amount of cash and other items
were taken in the break-in, according to the
incident report filed at the Jackson County
Sheriff’s Office.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported last week to the
sheriff’s office includes the following:
•suspicious activity at a Thornhill Drive,
Braselton, address, where a woman said an
orange or gold Pontiac Grand Prix or Grand
Am was driving slowly through the neigh
borhood. The woman said someone from
the vehicle took photos of her mailbox and
residence.
•criminal trespass at a Charlie Cooper Road,
Braselton, address, where a woman said her
family has been disputing about her deceased
mother’s estate. A magistrate court had named
the woman administrator of the estate. When
the woman went to the residence, she noticed
that a lock had been cut on a gate. An aunt
had also not apparently fed the dogs at the
residence in several days, she said.
•harassment by phone at a West Broad Street,
Hoschton, address, where a woman said her
daughter’s estranged husband called her using
inappropriate language. The daughter also
reported receiving several phone calls and text
messages from her estranged husband.
•simple battery at a Bristol Court, Hoschton,
address, where a man said he and his girlfriend
had an argument about another woman calling
and sending him text messages. The girlfriend
hit the boyfriend with a phone. The boyfriend
and girlfriend had been drinking during the
incident. The boyfriend said he wanted his
girlfriend arrested, but deputies told him how
to get a warrant for battery and the protective
order process.
•burglary at an Ambrosia Walk, Hoschton,
address, where two air conditioning units were
stolen, along with copper wiring and carpet
from three rooms in an unoccupied house.
•burglary at a Reese Drive, Hoschton,
address, where a man said someone entered
his house through a rear window and stole two
gaming systems, a TV and a gun. The items
were valued at $2,400.
•financial identity fraud at a Legacy Drive,
Hoschton, address, where a woman said some
one used checks with her bank account num
ber to purchase items at several locations.
•verbal dispute at a Wildflower Road,
Braselton, address, where a brother and sister
were fussing in the yard. The brother said his
father allowed him to stay at the residence, but
the sister said he wasn’t allowed there while
their father was out of town. The brother said
his sister and her boyfriend had threatened to
kill his dog and he couldn’t find the dog. The
sister denied saying that and the dog arrived
while a deputy was at the residence. The
brother left the residence.
•financial transaction card fraud at a
Creekview Court, Hoschton, address, where
a man said someone charged $10.40 from a
New York retailer on his credit card that he
didn’t approve.
•damage to property at Jackson Self Storage,
located on Zion Church Road, Braselton,
where a man said another man parking a car
hit a camper that was stored at the facility.
There was only minor damage to the camper.
•a woman said someone stole her purse from
the front seat of her truck while she was inside
the Head Start building on General Jackson
Drive in Jefferson.
•radio/CD player taken from a vehicle parked
at a Roquemore Road, Athens, residence.
•wires cut on the breaker box in a chicken
house at a Groaning Rock Road, Commerce,
address.
•identity theft against a Hill Street,
Commerce, man.
•stereo taken from a vehicle at a Gober
Drive, Commerce, residence.
•threats made during a dispute between sev
eral people at a Holly Springs Road, Maysville,
location.
•mailbox damaged at a Galilee Church
Road, Jefferson, address.
•vandalism to a car at a South Apple Valley
Road, Jefferson, location.
•theft of a purse from a Wilhite Road,
Jefferson, residence.
•burglary at a Red Oak Road, Maysville,
address.
•fight between two men at a D. Williams
Road location.
•electronic game taken from a Hillside Way,
Maysville, residence.
•$10 taken from at truck parked at a
Roquemore Road, Athens, address.
•vehicle taken from a Geiger Road, Jefferson,
location.
•trailer taken from a Holiday Cemetery
Road, Jefferson, address.
•several items taken from a Holly Springs
Road, Gillsville, residence.
•financial identity fraud against a General
Jackson Drive, Jefferson, resident.

Jefferson PD drug dog dies
THE JEFFERSON Police
Department has announced
the death of one of its dogs,
Ayok, who was found dead
in his kennel last Thursday
at 9 p.m.
The cause of death is not
known yet but an autopsy was
performed by the University
of Georgia Vet School. The
results will be available
within the next few weeks.
Ayok, with his partner,
Officer Jay Parker, was
instrumental in apprehend
ing many criminals and seiz
ing large amounts of drug
and cash.
A memorial service has
been planned for 3 p.m.
Friday, June 4, at the Curry
Creek Park in Jefferson.

Roadside checks planned
THE JEFFERSON Police
Department will kick off the
‘TOO days of summer heat”
effort on Friday, June 4, by
holding traffic checkpoints in
the city.
“Numerous officers from
several different agencies,
state and local, will be con
ducting roadside checks at
various locations throughout
the city of Jefferson,” police
chief Joe Wirthman said.
The chief reminds those on
the road to “buckle up and
be cognizant of their driving
habits.”
The effort is coordinated
by the Northeast Traffic
Enforcement Network
through the Governor’s Office
of Highway Safety.

PUBLIC HEARING
Jackson County Board of Commissioners
The Jackson County Board of
Commissioners will hold a public hearing at
6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 21, 2010, at the
Jackson County Courthouse at 5000 Jackson
Parkway, Jefferson, Georgia, to consider the
following matter:
1. Finch’s Landing Subdivision is requesting
the creation of a Special Tax District for
Street Lighting to provide a mechanism for
the property owners of the subdivision to
pay for the existing street lights within the
subdivision. (Tax Map 083D Parcels 001 to
192)
Applications, maps and public hearing
procedures are available for review in the
Planning Division Office, of the Department of
Public Development during regular office
