Plotkin earns degree
BETH A. PLOTKIN, Jefferson, was awarded a master of
science degree in occupational therapy from the University of
Scranton in Pennsylvania.
The Jesuit university conferred more than 630 master's
degrees and 37 doctoral degrees at its post-baccalaureate com
mencement ceremony in the Byron Recreation Complex on
campus on May 29.
UGA honors local students
THE UNIVERSITY of
Georgia has named several
Jackson County students to
either the presidential scholar
designation or to the dean’s
list for spring semester.
The presidential scholar
designation recognizes under
graduates who have scored a
perfect 4.0 grade point aver
age during the semester.
Students named to the
deanis list have earned a 3.5
grade point average or higher
out of a possible 4.0.
Both designations require
that students take at least 14
credit hours and receive no
unsatisfactory or incomplete
grades.
Those named as presidential
scholars are Alisa June Hilley,
Bogart, a senior majoring in
family and consumer scienc
es; Joshua Benjamin Elder.
Jefferson, a senior majoring
in arts and sciences; Kristin

JHS SENIORS GET SCHOLARSHIPS
The Jefferson Fire Department recently awarded Clark
Waters Memorial Scholarships to two 2010 graduates
from Jefferson High School. Bobby Gooch, chief,
Jefferson Fire Department, is shown presenting the
awards to Daniel Barber (left) and Halley Pursley
(right). The scholarship program was established in
memory of Clark Waters, a member of the Jefferson
Fire Department, who died in the line of duty with the
department. The scholarship is awarded to graduating
high school seniors who are pursuing a career in public
service or a public service related field.
