Robbery, false imprisonment among incidents reported
A ROBBERY at a flea market near Nicholson and false
imprisonment at a Talmo home are among the incidents
reported to the Jackson County Sheriffs Office last week.
A vendor at the J&J Flea Market, located on Hwy. 441,
reported that two men robbed him at his uncle’s coin and
game shop. He said one man distracted him by shaking a
game and then the other man grabbed his money apron. He
said both men ran and he chased them.
The victim said the two men got into a car where a third
man was sitting in the driver’s seat. He said he told them to
give back the money and one of the men began punching
at him through the back window. The victim said he then
“threw some punches and struck one of them in the eye.” The
man said the driver then began to drive off and he continued
to chase them. They were able to get away. The three men
left in a white, possibly 1990, Buick.
In the false imprisonment incident, a woman reported that
her boyfriend would not let her leave their Talmo residence
after they got into a fight. She said he held her down and sat
on her on the couch. He eventually left the home and she
called 911.

Groups offer chance to win weather radios
THE GEORGIA
Emergency Management
Agency’s Ready Georgia cam
paign is teaming with WSB-
TV, Atlanta, and The Kroger
Company for the second con
secutive year to arm Georgians
with NOAA wather radios as
hurricane season kicks off on
the Atlantic coast.
Through July 19, Georgians
who visit ready.ga.gov and
sign up to use Ready Georgia’s
interactive planning tool not
only get a customized check
list of emergency supplies and
a tailored emergency commu
nications plan, but they are
also entered to win one of
200 state-of the-art, digital
alert Midland radios - a criti
cal life-saving tool - from
WSB-TV.
Dawn Deans, one of last
year’s winners, said the
Ready Georgia website has
been a valuable preparedness
resource and having a NOAA
weather radio has given her
peace of mind, allowing her
to go about her day knowing
her family will be informed in
the event of impending severe
weather.
“Once when a hurri
cane threatened the coast, it
spawned a tornado near us
two days later,” said Deans, a
resident of Lilburn. “Thanks
to our radio’s warning, we
were able to get to the center
of the house where we needed
to be.”
In addition to being able
to win a radio from WSB-
TV, Kroger stores statewide
are also giving Georgians
the opportunity to purchase
NOAA Weather Radios at a
discount. Throughout hurri
cane season, Kroger will offer
weather radios for just $29.99
(regularly $49.99).
In Georgia, 29 transmit
ters broadcast throughout the
state, and approximately 98
percent of Georgia’s popu
lation lives within range of
NOAA weather radio trans
mitter.
