out of Jackson
County’s 13 all-star teams will
compete at the state level. Five out
of Jefferson's six teams move on to
state as well.
Some of that action will take
place locally as the Jefferson
Recreation Department will host
the 13-year-old all-star baseball
tournament, starting Thursday. It
will also host the 14-year-old state
tournament, starting July 9.
Here's a rundown of the most
recent all-star action:
•Jefferson’s 14-year-old base
ball all-stars won their district title
in an all-Jefferson final, beating the
Jefferson 13-year-old all-stars 11-1
Tuesday night. Jefferson’s 13-year-
old team — which beat Union
County 9-8 Monday night in an
11-inning thriller to advance to the
finals — will still be recognized
as champions as well since it fin
ished as the highest 13-year-old
squad in the combined 13-and-
14- year-old tournament. Jefferson
also won baseball titles last week
in both the 9-year-old and the
11- year-old divisions and finished
second in the 12-year-old divi
sion.
•In one of the comeback stories
of the all-star season, the Jackson
County Outlaws 8-year-old base
ball all-stars won their district
title Monday night with a 16-10
victory over Hall County, com
pleting a furious rally out of the
losers’ bracket. After losing 18-17
to the Hall County in the open
ing round, the Jackson County
Outlaws caught fire, winning five
consecutive games, including a
15- 3 victory over Hall County
Sunday to force the “if needed”
game Monday. Jackson County
won its other baseball title last
week in the 12-year-old division.
•Jackson County won its second
softball title Saturday when the
8-and-under all-stars beat Fannin
County 14-2 in the finals. Jackson
County's other softball title came
last week when the 10-and-under
all-stars won their district.
•The Jackson County’s 14-year-
old softball all-stars finished sec
ond in their tournament after an
8-7 loss to Fannin County Sunday.
Jackson County also had a runner-
up showing last week, with the
12- year-old all-stars finishing sec
ond in their district tournament.
