FINDS DUMPSTER IN HOME
A Commerce man returned to his home last week to find a dumpster that had been
left at his home for construction debris had crashed into the sunroom. The man
filed a report with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and reported that a company
was loading a roll off of the dumpster full of roofing shingles when the cable broke
and the dumpster went into the home. He said it caused major damage to his home,
located on Rob Balue Road, and estimated the damages at between $25,000 to
$30,000.

32 charged by Jackson Co. Sheriffs Office
AN 86-YEAR-OLD Hartwell woman
died from injuries sustained in a two-car
wreck Wednesday, July 14, on the Commerce
bypass.
According to the Georgia State Patrol,
Genevieve Gutierrez, 86, was a passenger in
a 1998 Lincoln Continental that ran the stop
sign on Hwy. 326 and pulled into the path of
a southbound Dodge Caravan driven by Linda
Cowan of Toccoa.
The Caravan broad-sided the Continental,
which was driven by Arnolfo Gutierrez, 63,
also of Hartwell.
Mrs. Gutierrez was life-flighted away from
the scene, but died shortly thereafter.
A 2-year-old child in the Cowan vehicle was
taken to Athens Regional Medical Center for
visible injuries, according to the state patrol.

Three domestic disputes Man charged recently after
reported in Arcade refusing to stop for police
THREE domestic disputes
are among the incidents
reported to the Arcade Police
Department last week. They

ing to police.

rape for the alleged rape of a
female neighbor on Monday,
July 12, police said. The inci
dent took place at the sus
pect’s house.

The incident was turned
over to the Braselton Police
Department's criminal inves
tigations unit, which issued
warrants for the male teen's
arrest. The Jackson County
District Attorney's Office is
handling the case.
The male teenager was
charged as an adult for the
rape, according to Braselton
police.
A MAN was arrested for
driving under the influence of
intoxicants and other charg
es after refusing to stop for
a police officer on 1-85 in
Jefferson.
John Dennis Vespaziani,
59, was also charged by the
Jefferson Police Department
with open container of alco
hol while operating a vehicle,
failure to yield to emergen
cy vehicle, possession of a
firearm by a convicted felon,
medication not in original
container and speeding.
A Jefferson police officer
went to the scene after dis
patch received several calls
that a motorist on 1-85 was
having trouble maintaining a
lane and had run several other
drivers off of the road.
The officer got behind
the vehicle, after observing
erratic driving, and turned on
his police lights and siren.
THE FOLLOWING arrest
was made by the Georgia
State Patrol in Jackson County
last week:
•Ashley Diane Watson, 29,

The driver did not stop and
the officer continue to pursue
him.
Three officers with the
Commerce Police Department
placed spike strips at the 147
mile marker on 1-85 and the
Vespaziani drove across them,
flattening several of his tires.
An officer then asked him to
get out of the vehicle, and
he did not do so. He was
then removed from his vehicle
and placed under arrest. The
officer noted that Vespaziani
was disoriented, had slurred
speech and did not know
where he was.

gun, M9 Beretta and a Pietro
Beretta handgun were located
inside the vehicle, as well as
ammunition. Four prescrip
tion medicine bottles, as well
as three small empty Vodka
bottles were also found in the
truck.
Bogart, DUI, driving while

14 while DUI, following too
closely and drugs to be kept in
original container.
