Born in Clarke County on
June 4, 1948, he was the son of
the late Claude Andrew Beck Sr.
and Francine Brown Beck. He
was a self-employed contrac
tor and member
of the Eastside
Baptist Church
in Marietta. He
was formerly a member of the
Prince Avenue Baptist Church
in Athens and the First Baptist
Church of Atlanta, where he was
a member of both choirs. He
was a United States Army vet
eran, having served during the
Vietnam War and was a member
of the American Legion. Mr.
Beck was preceded in death by a
sister. Frances Adams.
Survivors include his wife.

Bridges. He

46 years.
Retired
from the US DA where he
worked as an inspector, he was a
graduate of the Martin Institute
and served in the United States
Air Force during World War II.
He was a former member of the
V.F.W. and the Gainesville Elks
Club, was a member of the Paul
E. Bolding Post #7 American
Legion and the Riverbend
Baptist Church. Mr. Bridges was
preceded in death by his wife.

during World War II, serving in
North Africa, Italy and France.

at the University of Tennessee.
Joan worked in the transplant
department of Emory Hospital.
She was an accomplished sailor
and past commodore of Lake
Lanier Sailing Club and Barefoot
Sailing Club. She shared a love
for her Lord and served as organ
ist of the Flowery Branch United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband,
E. Dean Holcomb, Flowery
Branch; and a sister-in-law,
Connie Sears. Flowery Branch.
Funeral services were

the Flowery Branch United

died Sunday. August 1, 2010.
Born in Banks County on
March 27, 1926. he was the son
of the late James W. and Madge
Coffee Lewallen. He was a vet
eran having served in the United
States Navy during World War
II where he was uumjlij —
stationed in
Okinawa, Japan.
He was a mem-
ber of the Nails
Creek Baptist Church where he
served as a deacon for a num
ber of years and was also a
member of the Heaven Bound
Sunday School Class. He retired
after many years as the owner
and operator of the Nails Creek
Gas Company. Mr. Lewallen was
preceded in death by a sister,
Jannette Watkins; and brothers,
Owen and Nelson Lewallen.
Survivors include his wife,
Lynn Parks Lewallen, Homer;
sister and brother-in-law, Ruzelle
and Milton Patterson, Homer;
brothers and sisters-in-law. Clay
and Peggy Lewallen and Ray
and Glenda Lewallen. all of
Baldwin; and a number of nieces
and nephews.

she was

Donahoo. She was a graduate
of the Georgia State College
for Women, and was a lifetime
educator having recently retired.
She was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Jefferson and
was a faithful volunteer of the
Arc of Jackson County.
Survivors include her hus
band of 49 years. Jack Purcell,
Jefferson; daughter and son-in-
law, Jackie and Doug Thurmond,
Jefferson; a son, Carroll Purcell,
North Carolina; sisters, Marie
Smith, Jonesboro, Jo Benton,
Athens; brothers, Ray Donahoo,
Dunwoody, Terry Donahoo and
Don Donahoo, both of Winder;

‘Nanny’ Roberts
FLOWERY BRANCH
Retha ‘Nanny’ Jane Roberts, 88,
died very peacefully surrounded
by her family on Tuesday. July
27, 2010, at her residence, fol
lowing a long and courageous
battle with breast cancer.
She was born in White County,
the daughter of the late Johnny
Roberts and Callie (Jarrard)
Roberts Potts. She retired from
being a seamstress from Brown’s
in Atlanta, The Home Place of
Gainesville, and cleaning hous
es. She enjoyed being with fami
ly and friends and loved cooking
for them. She enjoyed crochet
ing, playing cards, watching TV
(especially her ‘stories’), flow
ers, gardening and playing with
her grandchildren and her dog.
Precious. She was so many things
to so many people. Nanny was
always, always there for anyone
who needed her. Mrs. Roberts
was preceded in death by sisters,
Odell Whitley. Ruby Hopper.
Pauline Dingier, and Johnnie Lou
Roberts; brothers and sisters-in-
laws, Hoyt and Lillie Roberts,
Earl and Lois Roberts, broth
ers, George Roberts and E.K.
Roberts; brother-in-law, Guy

She is survived by a daugh
ter. Brenda Williams, Flowery
