BAND CAMP AT JCCHS
The Jackson Comprehensive High School marching band rehearses its steps to
its half-time performance of “A Red, White and Blue Musical Explosion” while in
the student parking of the school on Friday. The JCCHS marching band has 140
students, and Miles and Helen Adams have been directing the band for 28 years.
“A Red, White and Blue Musical Explosion” doesn’t focus on a patriotic theme, but
rather explores the different musical textures that are representative of each of those
colors, according to Mr. Adams. For red, the band will begin the show with “Ritual
Fire Dance” — a fiery Latin jazz piece that features the trumpet section. For white,
the band will perform a hymn by Gustav Holst called “In the Bleak Midwinter,” which
will feature flutes and piccolos. For blue, the band will feature the saxophones in a
jazzy version of “Blues in the Night.” The group will combine red, white and blue to
conclude with Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.” Photo by Kerri Testement
