THE NEW Hoschton Park
is officially open for folks
to run, play and enjoy the
county's latest park.
“We’re practicing now,”
said Ricky Sanders, direc
tor of the Jackson County
Parks and Recreation and
Department.
Monday marked the
first “official” day that the
Hoschton Park — located
next to West Jackson Primary
School on Ga. Hwy. 53 — was
open to guests, although por
tions of it had been available
in recent weeks while the
finishing touches were put on
the park.
A grand opening ceremony
is planned for 9:30 a.m. on
Saturday, Sept. 11 — also the
opening day of fall sports for
the county rec department.
That's when sports teams will
start the day taking their team
photos, followed by games
beginning around 10 a.m.
The Hoschton Park fea
tures five fields for soccer
and one football field, a soft-
ball field, a lighted walking
trail around the facility, a
playground, restrooms and a
concession stand. Parking is
accessible through the neigh
boring school parking lot.
Sanders said the new park
— the sixth for Jackson
County — is already receiv
ing plenty of good comments
from visitors, and it's helping
the rec department schedule
practices and games for its
sports programs. This year,
the agency will have about
400 soccer players in the
county and almost 300 foot
ball players, among its other

programs.
“That'll be a big play field
for soccer,” Sanders said of
the Hoschton Park.
The lighted walking trail
is also gaining popularity
— and Sanders expects more
runners and walkers will start
using the track when word
gets out that it's officially
open. Lights at the park will
be turned off at 10 p.m. each
night, although the gates will
remain open.
The new Hoschton Park is
part of an intergovernmen
tal agreement with the city,
the Jackson County Board
of Commissioners and the
Jackson County Board of
Education. Those groups are
expected to participate in
next month’s grand opening
ceremony.

It's been one year, since the
morning your life was
taken from us. Thought
about everyday at every
moment. Bringing hard cold tears to our eyes when
we think about all the good times we once shared
together. The sound of your voice, the warmth of
your hugs, and whenever someone needed a helping
hand, you always were the first person to reach yours
out. You are your family's hero, missed deeply, and
loved endlessly, Justin Wayne Newberry.
With all our love; Rest in Peace,
