Home destroyed in fire
THIS Commerce area
home was destroyed
in a fire last week.
Fire personnel from
Nicholson, Commerce
and the Jackson County
Correctional Institute
responded to 402 A.C.
Smith Road to a reported
structure fire. Firemen
found a single-family
residence, approximately
1,500 square feet, fully
involved with fire. The
structure was a total loss
and no injuries were
reported. The occupant
was home at the time of
the incident and reported
he had candles burning
that started the fire.
Woman reports assault
A GILLSVILLE woman
was assaulted last week when
a man tried to force his way
into her home, according to
an incident report filed with
the Jackson County Sheriff's
Office.
The woman, who lives on
Holly Springs Road, said a
man approached her door
and said he had something he
wanted to sell and asked to
enter the home. She said when
she refused, he tried to force
himself inside and scratched
her and tore her shirt. She said
she managed to get the door
closed and he left in an older
model small red car.

the woods. The woman gave
