Slow-starting Panthers fall to Dawson
By Ben Munro
JACKSON COUNTY
fell behind early and came
up short against one of the
region's better teams.
The Panthers (9-7, 3-2),
who trailed 14-5 after
a quarter, fell to Dawson
County 55-52 for their sec
ond-straight loss. Dawson
County (11-3), however,
resides in the other sub-
region, so this setback for
Jackson County won't affect
the Panthers’ status in their
subregion.
Still, it was a disappointing
night for Jackson County,
which was returning after an
11-day layoff.
“We looked like we were
off, no question,” coach Britt
Beaver said. “We were flat,
and we did not play hard or
rebound well.”
Jarvis Shaw led the
Panthers with 17 points
while Kolin Zimmer added
11.
Dawson County is good,
Beaver said, but his team
could have played better.
“Dawson (County) is 11-3
for a reason,” the coach said.
“But we didn't play hard.”
Jackson County, which is
third in the subregion, has
little time dwell on the loss.
The Panthers face subregion
foe North Oconee Friday
and intra-county rival East
Jackson Saturday - both on
the road. Jackson County
then returns home Tuesday
for a big rematch against
Hart County.

Lady Panthers continued from page IB
and Friday and practiced again
Monday morning — all of which
were productive, Hawley said.
The hope is that a well-rested, well-
focused Jackson County squad will
be all the more ready for Friday's
game against North Oconee and the
rest of the subregion slate. The Lady
Panthers play intra-county rival East
Jackson the following night.
“I feel like we haven't played our
best basketball yet,” Hawley said. “I
still think we're capable of playing
better basketball.”
As Hawley put it, this team doesn’t
have to dig around to find new ways
to win or reinvent itself. The template
is already there for success.
“It’s just a matter of us believing in
ourselves,” he said.
NOTES: The Jackson County
boys added the Tuesday game against
Dawson County to their schedule
because they didn't play in a Christmas
tournament. Jackson County's girls
did. Because of that, the Lady Panthers
couldn't play against Dawson County
Tuesday because that would have put
them over the regular season limit of
25 games.
