Ray Bennett, 62, died Friday,
September 16,2011 at Northridge
Medical Center.
He was bom in Homer, the son
of the late Virginia Bennett and
was a retired painter.
Survivors include his
wife, Elaine Benton Bennett,
Commerce; daughters, Margaret
Bennett, Flowery Branch, and
Miranda Herring, Commerce;
brother, Billy Bennett, Canton;
and a granddaughter, Cheyenne
Nix.

Oscar Brown, 91, died Friday,
September 16, 2011 at his resi
dence.
Born in Banks County, he was
the son of the late Charlie and
Nora Brown. He was retired
from Hurst Ford. Mr. Brown
was preceded in death by a son,
Jim Brown; daughter, Nora Ruth
Brown; and great-grandson, Alex
Brown.
Survivors include his wife,
Alma Grace Epps Brown,
Commerce; son, Jack Brown,
Commerce; daughters, Kay Hill,
Maysville, and Tilly Wilson,
Black Mountain, N.C.; brother,
Tom Brown, Commerce; sis
ter, Liz Connley, Athens; seven
grandchildren; and seven great
grandchildren.

Whitehead "Berbie” Burroughs,
93, of 5821 Colbert-Danielsville
Rd., died Wednesday, September
14,2011.
A lifelong resident of Madison
County, she was the daughter
of the late Earnest and Susie
Vaughn Whitehead. She was pre
ceded in death by a sister, Rosa
Lou Whitehead; two brothers,
Ralph and Reece Whitehead of
Comer; sister-in-law, Willie Mae
Threkeld of Paoli; and a broth-
er-in-law, Ralph Burroughs of
Atlanta. She was a homemaker
and member of Colbert Baptist
Church. She was a loving and
devoted wife, sister, and second
mother to her sister’s children.
Survivors include her lov
ing husband of 70 years, Paul
Burroughs; a sister, Reba Moon,
Colbert; two nieces, Tammy
Moon Strickland (Keith), Colbert,
and Carol Lowe, Stone Mountain;
nephews, Dennis Moon
(Brenda), Colbert, Mitch Moon,
Danielsville, Ken Whitehead
(Linda) and Donald Whitehead
(Rita), all of Comer, Lanier
Whitehead (Barbara), Bogart,

Friday, September 16, at Colbert
Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad
Wilson officiating. Interment was
in Colbert Cemetery. Pallbearers

Lanier Whitehead.

Bonita E. Churchman
COLBERT - Bonita Elaine
Churchman, 40, died Saturday,
September 17, 2011 peacefully
at her residence.
A native of Athens, she was
the daughter of Frank L. and
Bette Ottersbach Churchman and
was a 1989 graduate of Madison
County High School. She received
her Associate Degree in nursing
in 1993 from Athens Technical
College and was employed with
Athens Regional Medical Center
as a nurse in the Neuro ICU unit
for 15 years. She was of the
Baptist denomination.
Survivors in addition to her
parents include a daughter,
Heather Ashlee Lord; three
brothers, Mark Andrew, David
Lee, and Paul Alan Churchman;
and 10 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
at Riverside Baptist Church on
Tuesday, September 20, with the
Revs. Joe Wood and Dennis Nix
officiating.

Lee Early, Sr., 67, died Saturday,
September 10, 2011 at his resi
dence following an extended ill
ness.
He was born on January
16, 1944, the son of the late
Horace Eugene and Mary Early
of Roanoke, Va. He worked as
a printer for World Color and
attended Hopewell Baptist
Church. Mr. Early was also pre
ceded in death by his brother
Rob Early; and sister, Norma
Burton.
Survivors include his wife of
34 years, Audrey Early; sons,
Jim Early, Roanoke, Va., Lee
Early, Griffin, Chris Early,
Oakwood; son and daughter-
in-law, Mike and Crissie Boyd,

Connie had
touched throughout her very
memorable life.
Mrs. Haynes was born May
16, 1942, in Mexico, Missouri
to Russell and Edna Creed, who
preceded her death along with
her first husband, Robert M.
Turner Jr. and her sister, Linda
Sewell.
She enjoyed spending time
with family, gardening, crafts and
scrapbooking. She also loved to
design jewelry and knitting.
Survivors include her husband
of 30 years, Robert G. Haynes;
daughter, Jamie Turner Brooks
and her husband, Danny Ray
Brooks; son, Spence Cooper
Turner; grandson, Daniel Tyler
Brooks; granddaughters, Randi
Danielle Brooks and Lauren
Christine Turner; stepdaughter,

Haynes and his wife Teresa
Haynes; step-granddaughters,

A celebration of life memorial
service will be held at the home of
Connie and Robert Haynes at 357
Washington Pkwy., Jefferson, on
Saturday, September 24 between
5 p.m. and 7 p.m. for friends and
family.

Baptist Church and was retired
front Liberty National. Mrs.
Holliday was preceded in death
by her husband, James Carlton
Holliday; brother. Bud Parsley;
and sister, Anita Page Mealor.

Thursday, September 22 at 11
a.m. front the chapel of Little-
Ward Funeral Home with the Rev.
David Harbin officiating. Burial
will be at Oconee Hill Cemetery.

Lanthier, Jr., 65, died Tuesday,
September 13, 2011.
Born in Barrow County, he
was the son of the late Ludger
W. Lanthier Sr. and Hazel
Church Lanthier. He was pre
ceded in death by a son, Thomas
Christopher Lanthier.
He was a graduate of Winder
Barrow High School in 1964,
a member of
the Winder
First Methodist
Church, and
Masonic Lodge
and the Davidson Lodge. He
was the owner of Winder-Barrow
Realty, which he started over 30
years ago. Mr. Lanthier served
in the United States Air Force
Reserves.
Survivors include his wife of
45 years, Patricia Wall Lanthier
of Winder; son. Trip (Julie)
Lanthier, Winder; grandchil
dren, Christine, Samantha and
Leslie Lanthier; brothers, Mitch
(Susan) Lanthier and Greg (Pat)
Lanthier, all of Winder; and a
sister, Barbara (Les) Mount,
Winder.

Church with the Rev. Larry Rary

‘Tom’ McEachin
Thomas “Tom" M. McEachin,
72, died
Monday,
September
12, 2011, at
Alzheimer’s
Care of
Commerce.
Born in
Albany,
his fam
ily moved to
Miami, Fla.,
where he lived until graduation
from Miami Senior High School.
After high school, he and his
wife moved to Oklahoma where
Tom graduated front Oklahoma
Baptist University. While at
OBU, Tom toured with the USO
tour group in the Far East. Tom
furthered his education by grad
uating from the New Orleans
Baptist Theological Seminary.
Tom and his family served as
missionaries in Taiwan with the
Southern Baptist International
Mission Board/North American
Board, SBC, where he served for
21 years before retiring.
Survivors include his wife of
51 years, Mary Blair McEachin;
son, Jim McEachin and his wife.
Shannon, son, Scott McEachin,
and his wife Felicia, son, Joe
McEachin, and his partner, Chris,
grandchildren, Lauren McEachin
Bone, her husband Brian,
Samantha McEachin Reeves
and husband, Neal, Graham
McEachin, Sheena McEachin,
Jacob McEachin and Clayton
McEachin. Also surviving are
Tom’s mother, Louise McEachin,
brother, Wayne McEachin and
his wife, Nina, sister, Winnelle
Marsengill, her husband, Dan.
Also surviving are two brothers-
in-law who were like brothers,
Gil Parrish, his wife, Nannette
(like a sister), and John Parrish.
Many nieces, nephews and cous
ins, are also a part of our loved
family.
Tom was a member of the
Winder First Baptist Church.
A memorial service was held
on Saturday, September 17, in
the chapel of Evans Funeral
Home. John Talley, pastor of
First Baptist Winder, Richard
Harris, retired President of North
American Mission Board, and
Brent Cochran, musician, who
along with Talley and Harris,
blessed Toni’s life with their
ministries.
Tom has donated his body
to science for the study of
Alzheimer's, to hopefully, hasten
a cure for this dreaded disease.

she was the daughter of Ruby
Pruitt of Commerce and the late
Verdell Marlow. She was preced
ed in death by a brother, Jackie
Marlow; and granddaughter,
McKinley Elizabeth.

Church. Mrs. Nalley was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
James Emory Nalley; and three
brothers, H.J. Wright, Robert
Wright, and Thomas Wright.

Carolyn Patrick, 87, died Sunday,

Born in Winder, she was the
daughter of the late Roy and
Clara Morris Segars. She was
a member of the Winder First
United Methodist Church. Mrs.
Patrick was preceded in death
by her husband, Kenneth “Pete”
Patrick; brother, Donald Segars;
and sisters, Runette Ridgeway
and Evelyn Cureton.
Survivors include sons, Mike
(Brenda) Patrick, Winder, and
Mark (Donna) Patrick, Auburn;
and several nieces and nephews.

‘Bobbie’ Pruett
Beulah Flora Hebbring
"Bobbie” Pruett died peacefully
on Sunday, September 11, 2011.
She was born in Stanley, Wis.,
on May 14, 1917, and was the
daughter of the late John Eugene
and Ethel Flora Hebbring.
She attended the Stanley pub
lic school system and Beulah
Heights University (formerly
Beulah Heights Bible College)
in Atlanta, Ga., where she gradu
ated Valedictorian with the class
of 1940. She met her future
husband, Ernest Paul Pruett, Sr.
there and together they served
God in the Georgia Assemblies
of God Church organization for
many years. Sister Pruett led
the WMCs and was a tremen
dous leader, speaker and Sunday
School teacher. Her love for God
never faltered in her 94 years
of life as was evidenced by her
incredible prayers and sweet
countenance.
She was preceded in death
by two brothers. Merle Eugene
Hebbring and Wilford John
Hebbring; sister, Wayverne
Marie Hebbring Warner; and her
husband, Ernest Paul Pruett, Sr.
Survivors include a son, Ernest
Pruett, Jr. (Kathy), Commerce;
daughters, Melanie Pruett
(Larry Williamson), Griffin,
Darlene Pruett (Mike Whitfield),
Memphis, Tenn.; four grand
children, Ernie Pruett III, Stacy
Pruett, Michelle (Pruett) Brown
and Justin Edwards; eight great
grandchildren; and three great-
great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews scattered
across the country.
After the death of her husband
in 2009, ‘Bobbie’ (named by
her grandson, Justin) moved to
Memphis to live the rest of her
life with her youngest daughter,
Darlene and son-in-law, Mike.
She attended church at Hope
Presbyterian and was much loved
and cared for by family, friends
and the incredible hospice staff
of Methodist LeBonheur. She put
a smile on the faces of those
around her with her never fail
ing wit and ability to belt out a
heartfelt dinner prayer. She was
a woman of strong faith with no
doubt who holds tomorrow.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, September 14,
from Conner-Westbury Funeral
Home in Griffin. Entombment
followed at Westwood Gardens
Mausoleum, where she will be
laid to rest beside her husband
of 42 years.

Born in Polk County, she was
the daughter of the late Herman
Janies and Bertha Ackerman
Wright. She was a homemak

Cheek.

dren; 16 great-grandchildren;
brother, Jerome Wright, Virginia;

Northeast Georgia Medical
Center.
Born on September 28, 1927,
in Banks County, she was the
daughter of the late Claude and
Bertie Creasmon Lewallen. She
was preceded in death by her hus
band, John H. “Bill” Smith; and
daughter, Ellen Lewallen. Mrs.
Smith was formerly employed
with Carwood Manufacturing
Company for a number of years
and was also a poultry farmer
with Fieldale Farms for a number
of years. She was a member of
Union Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter
and son-in-law, Gail and Edward
Kelley, Baldwin; sons, Don
Smith, Turnerville, and Harry
Smith, Baldwin; brother and
sister-in-law, John A. and Myrtle
Lewallen, Baldwin; brother,
Roddy Watkins, Iva, S.C.; seven
grandchildren; and 11 great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at
2 p.m. on Thursday, September
22, at Whitfield Funeral Home,
South Chapel, Baldwin, with the
Revs. Terrell Simmons and Paul
Bryson officiating. Interment
will follow in Union Hill Baptist
Church Cemetery.
